You will lead the employment law function for the APAC Region, providing counsel and advice in all aspects of the employment relationship and managing a portfolio of contentious matters. We are looking for a high performer who has exceptional communication skills and is adaptable, team-oriented, loves to learn, and operates with a high degree of integrity.This role can be located in Japan, Korea, or Australia and will report to the Chief Counsel - Global Employment Law located in the U.S.What You'll DoProvide advice and counsel to the APAC Employee Success Team (HR) on all aspects of employment lawDraft and negotiate employment-related agreements, including severance agreementsCoordinate with internal and external subject matter experts, including external counsel, when needed, and manage employment-related litigationAssist with other corporate initiatives as required (e.g., M&A, commercial, and compliance matters)Travel in the Region to attend court with external counsel where necessary and to develop and maintain relationships with business partnersSupport the continuous improvement of internal processesKeeping up to date with new developments in employment legislation and advising HR of any necessary changesEstablish and build good working relationships with senior APAC leadership and other internal clients (manager and HR) based on mutual trust and respect, as well as knowledge of the company's business, needs, and goalsDevelop and execute a legal strategy for the RegionRequirements7+ years experience practicing employment law in a reputable law firm and/or in-house for a U.S.-based corporationProven experience working in ambiguous situations, thoughtful but business-minded, adaptable to different approaches, and comfortable with riskExperience with different kinds of employment issues (e.g., wage and hour, dismissals, compensation, discipline, works councils, and unions)Experience managing employment disputes (e.g., litigation) in more than one major APAC countryA confident and positive lawyer with experience providing advice and counsel in all employment matters, including hiring, discipline, and dismissals, drafting employment-related documents, and leading assigned projects to positive conclusionsStrong aptitude towards drafting documents, emails, and anything else in a very precise manner, while still being concise and digestible for non-lawyers. Attention to detail is a mustAbility to successfully work independently but also able to use good judgment and escalate issues when neededFluent in written and spoken EnglishNice to HaveExperience providing advice in multiple jurisdictions.Demonstrated understanding of the Asia landscape and country/culture differences across China, Japan, Korea, AUNZ, India, and SingaporeSome additional language skills - Chinese or Japanese preferred#LI-RemoteVeeva's headquarters is located in the San Francisco Bay Area with offices in more than 15 countries around the world.Veeva is an equal opportunity employer.
