The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise and Engagement) in a key leadership position and work at the forefront of Monash Innovation.
As the Senior Director, New Ventures and Investments, you will lead the investment and associated support for a growing portfolio of spinouts and start-ups at Monash. This will encompass both direct investments from Monash and tailored assistance to navigate the challenges experienced by newly created ventures, thereby accelerating their establishment and growth.
Leveraging your extensive experience in early-stage investment and portfolio management, you will lead direct investments into companies, including managing the $15M pre-seed fund and establishing best practice policies, processes, and mechanisms of new venture support related to the growing Monash spinout portfolio. Key to this position will be the development of strong working relationships with the commercialisation team at Monash Innovation and external investors, mentors, and other support networks, collaborating to actively identify, evaluate, and develop a pipeline of investment opportunities. This position will also be a key contributor to the design and launch of services to strengthen the success of Monash-affiliated spinouts and start-ups, significantly contributing to the University's wider entrepreneurship ecosystem.
You will have significant experience in the deep tech and/or life sciences start-up value chain including opportunity analysis and deal structuring in early-stage and mid-stage companies. In addition, a track record of exceptional commercial acumen and outstanding interpersonal and communication skills is pivotal to this position.
