Power Generation & Distribution (Mining, Resources & Energy)Oversee the end-to-end development of utility-scale BESS projects, focusing on the early and mid-stage development commercialization phases within the NEM framework.Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating internal and external specialists from areas such as planning, legal, grid integration, environmental management, and engineering.Drive the environmental planning and approvals process, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations, obtaining necessary DA permits, and ensuring adherence to planning conditions throughout the project lifecycle.Work closely with technical teams to select key external advisors, consultants, OEMs, and EPC contractors, providing leadership in the negotiation and execution of contracts as the project moves towards financial close.Take ownership of the development plan, ensuring it aligns with project objectives, including budget setting, risk management, and timely delivery of milestones.Develop strategies to navigate the unique complexities of the NEM, including grid connection processes, market participation, and compliance with both state and federal regulations.Conduct site visits and assessments, identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies in alignment with local environmental, regulatory, and stakeholder concerns.Manage the land acquisition team in landowner and community engagement efforts, ensuring transparent communication, managing expectations, and addressing concerns related to the development of BESS projects within the local and regional landscape.Provide regular project progress updates to senior management, highlighting key milestones, risks, and issues while ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.Requirements:In-depth Knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM): Expertise in the structure and operation of the NEM, including electricity market design, ancillary services, market settlements, and grid connection requirements for large-scale energy storage systems.Grid Connection & Integration Expertise: Deep understanding of grid connection processes, including managing technical interfaces with network operators, and ensuring compliance with NEM standards for interconnection and grid stability.Regulatory & Policy Acumen: Strong knowledge of energy policy, regulations, and the evolving landscape of energy storage incentives and support mechanisms at both state and federal levels. Familiarity with the NSP and AEMO processes is essential.Financial & Commercial Acumen: Ability to oversee project financial modeling, investment appraisals, and commercial negotiations, ensuring alignment with project funding requirements and business goals. Understanding of project financing structures for BESS projects, including debt and equity financing, and the associated risks.Risk Management & Mitigation: Proficient in identifying and mitigating technical, environmental, financial, and regulatory risks at all stages of project development, with a particular focus on risk factors unique to large-scale battery storage systems.Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Strong skills in managing relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, landowners, and local communities. Ability to address concerns and communicate the long-term benefits of BESS projects effectively.Technical Knowledge of BESS Systems: Familiarity with battery storage technologies, system design, performance requirements, battery degradation, and energy management solutions to ensure optimal project execution.Contract Negotiation & Management: Expertise in negotiating and managing contracts with external parties, including EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractors, OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and service providers, ensuring favorable terms and successful project delivery.Team Leadership & Collaboration: Proven leadership skills in managing cross-functional teams, with the ability to foster collaboration across diverse disciplines, aligning project objectives with organizational goals.Project Management Expertise: Advanced skills in project scheduling, budgeting, and milestone tracking, with the ability to adjust plans as needed based on changing project dynamics and external factors.Qualifications:Master's Degree in Electrical / Electronic / Power Systems Engineering.Postgraduate qualifications in asset management, business management, or related technical areas preferred.Driver's License
