What we are looking for: As the Coordinator for Development Compliance, you'll ensure the compliance and delivery of Planning and Building investigative services across the whole region are applied at a high standard in a fair, transparent, and timely manner.
As a resilient leader you'll assemble a team and guide them through the pressures of the compliance space in a sector that is experiencing solid growth.
You'll manage, supervise and assist staff in all aspects of Planning and Building Compliance and conduct high level investigations of breaches of legislation and local laws.
What your day will look like: Assemble the Development Compliance Team and provide contemporary leadership, mentoring and development opportunities. Prepare policy and procedure documents for a range of education, interpretation, enforcement, compliance and investigation issues. Provide high-level technical advice, monitoring and guidance relative to interpretation and communication of legislation. Oversee the application, approval and compliance issues associated with regulated activities deemed to be significant. Investigate and resolve complaints lodged by the public using appropriate levels of tact and discretion. Liaise with law firms and other agencies in seeking legal advice, prepare court documents and legal briefings, etc. Draft and issue Statutory Notices, obtain sound legal evidence and institute legal proceedings in accordance with legislation relevant to this position. Liaise with Certifiers, Builders and Developers regarding legislative requirements and enforcement matters. Prepare and manage the annual budget for the section. What you'll need for success: Relevant bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience in a senior government regulatory role, with a focus on compliance, enforcement and investigations. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff within the Planning and Building Investigative fields. Experience actioning high level investigations and enforcement, in particular for breaches of planning and building legislation, local laws and compliance matters. Proven ability to effectively contribute to the establishment, maintenance and success of work teams focused on achieving individual, team and organisational goals. Highly developed communication skills including the ability to influence and negotiate, and write policies and reports. Demonstrated organisational ability including planning, financial management, project management and problem analysis/resolution. Licences: Current Driver's Licence What's nice to have: Degree qualification (AQF Level 7) in a relevant discipline such as town planning, building, land management, law. AQF Level 4 or above qualifications in statutory compliance, governance, investigations and environmental management.
