POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Design Manager at Hickory serves a pivotal role in overseeing the comprehensive design aspects of construction projects.
Their primary purpose lies in ensuring the seamless integration of design processes from initial planning to project completion.
They are responsible for guiding and coordinating design teams, offering expertise on build feasibility and aligning design choices with project objectives.
The role also emphasizes strong upfront capabilities, including Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) experience, to identify value for clients and lead the process in collaboration with consultants, authorities, the Project Team, and Estimators.
WHAT HICKORY CAN OFFER Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a balanced work-life schedule with a standard 5-day work week.Continuous Career Advancement: Unlock your potential through ongoing career development and growth prospects.Employee Wellbeing: Access our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for valuable support and resources.Travel Perks: Benefit from exclusive travel perks, including discounted flights and hotel rates.Expert In-House Team: Collaborate with our dedicated structures and facades team.Family-Friendly Policies: Receive paid parental leave to support your family needs.Supportive Culture: Thrive in a nurturing team environment that values both collective and individual achievements.Diverse Opportunities: Gain exposure to a wide range of roles and industry leaders in our leading market company.RESPONSIBILITIES Manage the design process from pre-planning through construction, ensuring designs meet project goals and client requirements throughout.Provide guidance and advice on design implications and build feasibility issues, offering expertise on design choices and identifying any feasibility issues that may arise during construction.Offer recommendations and insights concerning value management and project specifications, aligning project specs with objectives and minimizing costs.Ensure consistent application of design processes across projects, implementing standardized methodologies.Contribute to developing an adaptable Design Management Plan tailored to suit the unique requirements of different projects.Address inquiries and manage communications with stakeholders promptly and professionally.Participate in workshops with the project team, actively contributing ideas to enhance the design process.Lead or engage in meetings, preparing necessary documents and distributing relevant materials for effective communication.Offer advice on legislative compliance and the latest design standards, ensuring designs adhere to regulations.Incorporate Hickory's guidelines and best practices, including the Hickory Way, into design documents.Ensure compliance with Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental standards, focusing on safe design practices.Complete Health Safety and Environment requirements, including monitoring design change checklists and risk assessments.Provide risk assessments and manage commercial risks in design outputs to minimize negative impact.Maintain design brief within cost restraints, avoiding unnecessary expenses.Ensure all design output meets quality standards and specifications set by Hickory and its clients.Implement sustainable design practices, integrating environmental and sustainability standards into the design process.Supervise the adoption of innovative technologies and software for design processes to enhance efficiency and quality.Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met throughout the design process.Continuously review and refine internal design processes to enhance efficiency and reduce redundancy.Address conflicts or issues promptly, working with teams to find effective solutions.Stay updated on new design technologies and industry trends to incorporate innovative methods.Oversee the comprehensive documentation of the design process, generating reports and documentation for stakeholders.Lead and coordinate on-site design detailing and resolve design issues in consultation with the delivery team to ensure smooth project execution.Provide procurement advice around scope requirements and technical advice to support project needs and ensure alignment with design objectives.TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE Bachelor of Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management or equivalent.10 years of experience in Design Management for commercial construction projects.Proven Leadership and Team Management Skills.Strong Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance and Design Standards.Experience in managing design budgets effectively, optimising resources and making strategic decisions to ensure design excellence within budget constraints.Track record of integrating innovative design concepts and leveraging cutting-edge technology tools to enhance the design process.Experience in Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) processes to find value for clients and lead collaboration among consultants, authorities, and project stakeholders.If this sounds like your next opportunity, we would love to hear from you as soon as possible!
