Purpose of your role As a Senior Data Engineer you will be responsible for delivering high quality data, maintenance, optimisations and solutions to support the data operations in OFX. Working across AWS and GCP, you will also be exposed to data ingestion, transformation, and warehousing. Working in an agile environment, you will provide technical expertise and support while delivering quality solutions to appropriate standards and accepted best practices. You will actively participate in the agile processes of the organization, positively contributing to discussions and team dynamics.
What you do Your role will perform a range of data engineering and database administration tasks as part of a cross-functional data and insights team. Day to day you will:
Monitor and configure database alerting to look for performance optimisations, availability risks, and security vulnerabilitiesCreate new data pipelines using infrastructure as code, and maintain/debug existing data pipelines which pull data from a variety of source systemsWork within a wider engineering team, adopting and contributing to best practices for software development and cloud architectureCoordinate with various incident, engineering, and operations teams to diagnose and resolve any production issues which arise, communicating status updates to key stakeholdersTurn resolutions into repeatable patterns which can be used to drive continuous improvement to our systems and processesDevelopappropriate testing and monitoring, as well as providing handover and technical escalation supportQualificationsWhat you bring At least 3 years' of experience with cloud relational databases, such as Amazon RDS or Google Cloud SQLAt least 3 years' experience with cloud data warehouses, such as Amazon Redshift or Google BigQuery.Previous roles which involved performing database administration tasks such as implementing monitoring, query profiling, configuring high availability and securityParticipation in using git-based version control systems such as Github or Bitbucket to progress changes between development, testing, and production environments.Experience with event-driven and batch data ingestion patterns, including the usage of cloud messaging, cloud storage, and serverless SQL services.Previous exposure to Microsoft SQL ServerKey Attributes Ability to understand complex business processes and requirementsGood understanding of the business information needs of the organisationStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to contribute to the success of a high performing teamWillingness to contribute across functions and geographies to ensure the success of the teamDesire to bring innovation to the solution development processHigh level of self-motivation to achieve the ultimate team and company successAbility to identify and follow the right course of actionAbility to define own tasks when given business and team goalsEnjoys dealing with and successfully manages large volumes of detailExcellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication, attention to detail and follow-through skillsExperience working in a dynamic environment with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new methodologies and technologiesNice to haves Experience with identifying and implementing security improvements across cloud storage, messaging, databases, and data warehouses.Previous exposure to data modelling methodologies such as third normal form and star schemaExperience with Informatica Intelligent Cloud ServicesUnderstanding of Agile development methodology and development practices such as TDD, Kanban, Lean, etc.Previous domain experience in the financial services industryAdditional InformationWhat it's like working at OFX We're OFXers because we want to make a difference.
