Your typical day as a Senior Data Engineer may include: Ensuring data pipelines are managed, proactively monitored, and available. Leading the troubleshooting, problem solving, and identification of the root cause of data pipeline issues impacting the availability of data. Leading the design and rollout of data services and data pipelines, including coverage of security, reliability, and availability. Collaborating with business analysts, data analysts, project teams, management, and other stakeholders for the development of data pipelines and technical and functional requirements for reporting solutions. You will be supported by a positive, constructive team and divisional leaders as you do your work.
Key accountabilities of the role are: Working in conjunction with internal, external agencies, and third-party data providers to implement data pipelines for business-critical data and reporting functions. Performing administrative and maintenance data engineering tasks on ETL/ELT data pipelines, focusing on optimizing performance. Supporting the identification and resolution of issues by using monitoring and diagnostic tools to find solutions and suggest improvements. Developing and maintaining system documentation, procedures, and configurations to a professional standard to ensure good data governance. Developing and nurturing effective working relationships with key stakeholders and service providers. Collaborating effectively as part of a dedicated team, applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to ensure successful resolution of issues, incidents, and high-quality service delivery. Supporting IT management in defining, managing, and monitoring the information architecture and technological design of the organization's core business solutions. To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate: Exposure to building robust data pipelines and data models in Azure using data integration tools such as Databricks and Azure Data Factory. Familiarity with lakehouse architecture, data modelling for PowerBI reporting, SQL Server and Oracle databases, CI/CD practices, and Python programming. Stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Exposure to investigating and providing root cause data analysis of pipeline issues.
