The Mackay Regional Council is on the lookout for a Data Engineer to guide business data projects and provide advanced data warehousing architecture solutions that aid data analytics staff to enhance organisational decision-making.
This role involves offering expert consultation through the design and development of a warehouse solution utilising Microsoft Fabric and Azure services.
The incumbent will mentor and educate team members and the wider organisation to foster independent data reporting and analytical capabilities.

About this opportunity:Key responsibilities include evaluating business data needs and designing and developing the technical architecture supporting data analytics solutions.
This involves developing and maintaining data warehouse solutions in an Azure cloud environment and Microsoft Fabric, sourcing data from diverse complex ERP solutions into centralised self-service analytics models.
You'll also be responsible for creating data visualisation and reporting tools, building data pipelines from source to presentation, and collaborating on data-driven business initiatives.
You'll be required to stay updated on the latest developments in data analysis and AI/ML, enhancing the Council's data analysis and intelligence tools, and providing technical advice on supportive technology acquisition.
Additionally, you'll enable system users on data consumption, analytics and PowerBi dashboard development.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:Qualification in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or equivalent, with a preference for a degree or diploma and significant relevant experience.Extensive experience in Azure data solutions (Synapse, ADF, SQL), Microsoft Fabric, and data visualisation tools like Power BI.Proven ability to build cooperative relationships with stakeholders, lead successful project deliveries, and work effectively in project teams.Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking, data analysis, and proficiency in translating complex data into simplified models, with good communication and Microsoft 365 skills.Certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate DP-203, Azure Database Administrator Associate DP-300, Azure AI Engineer Associate AI-102, or similar, and experience with Local Government applications or vendors like Infor, Technology One, Frontier, and Brightly Assetic will be highly regarded.Why work for Mackay Regional Council?Mackay Regional Council offers a dynamic, progressive and financially sound local government, with responsibility for $3.5 billion worth of assets and employing almost 1200 dedicated staff in a vibrant, rapidly growing region where sugar, mining, beef, tourism and retail drive the economy.
