The Role
The Senior Curator reports to the Head of Photographs, Film and Sound. The position works under limited direction and in close association with the section's other managers and senior curators to progress development and management of the Memorial's PFS collections. The Senior Curator provides strategic and professional advice, represents the collection within the Memorial, and provides management and mentorship to a team of curatorial and collection staff to assess, document, and apply Memorial collection management principles and practice. Other responsibilities include liaising and negotiating with stakeholders and vendors, assisting with delivery of PFS priorities and projects, and working in line with and consideration of the Memorial's Gallery Development project, which will see new exhibition spaces coming online 2026-2028. The Senior Curator also contributes to corporate governance, coordinates input for section business processes such as strategic and business planning, including budget and business case development. 
The position requires strong curatorial and collection management experience, including demonstrated ability to lead a team of staff in the application of best museum practice to a collection of analogue and digital assets, and delivery of collection based projects. The position also works with staff and stakeholders to deliver rich content via a variety of platforms and methods, and undertakes some broader coordination activities as directed by the Head, PFS. 
Core Responsibilities Provide leadership focused on collaborative team management, capability building and coordination. Develop, manage and advise on matters of best practice curatorial and management of photographic and audio visual collections, including commissioning projects, conducting research, and involvement in public engagement programs as aligns with business plans and corporate priorities. Lead, mentor and develop staff, provide strong curatorial capability and promote open communication and initiative. Plan for current and future museum trends in public engagement capability as it relates to our corporate objectives. Contribute to the development of the PFS strategic and business plan aligned with corporate priorities. Contribute to museum management and practice as it relates to collection development, documentation and storage. Engage with PFS high level stakeholders (donors, veterans, academics, designers, dealers, artists, photographers and filmmakers) to provide appropriate consultation and advice and represent the Memorial in relevant museum and professional forums. Prepare high level strategic documents, including management reports, papers and correspondence. Advise and report to the Head of PFS and other senior management on relevant matters as required. Perform functions and exercise responsibility associated with staff management, workplace health and safety, procurement, and team development in accordance with Memorial policies and procedures.
