Primary Objective: To assist the Criminal Registrar and/or Civil Registrar by providing comprehensive, accurate, and timely administrative support to judicial officers and clients of the Courts in a variety of jurisdictions.
This position is required to undertake travel to circuit courts as required.
Context Statement: Court Officers support registries and Court Services in a variety of jurisdictions.
Court Officers must be able to work with judicial officers who have varying practices and expectations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the Criminal Registrar and/or Civil Registrar in the management of the registry and perform the duties of Criminal Registrar and/or Civil Registrar during absences.Ensure that all orders, warrants, summonses, and other court documents and matters are processed efficiently and accurately in compliance with the relevant legislation.Assist in the maintenance and security of files, records, registers, and exhibits.Use computer-based systems including Integrated Justice Information System (IJIS), Government Accounting System (GAS), Microsoft Excel, and Word to enter data and extract documents from the court information system.Assist the Criminal Registrar and/or Civil Registrar with staff development by providing ongoing advice and training to Registry staff.Perform the statutory duties of a Registrar, which includes the issue of process, processing and giving effect to court orders, and complying with the relevant legislation.Travel to circuit courts and undertake relevant duties as required as the Senior Court Officer.Other duties as determined by the Registrars.Selection Criteria: Essential: Strong client focus, with well-developed interpersonal and oral and written communication skills appropriate for working in a professional legal environment dealing with a broad range of stakeholders including people from diverse cultures.Demonstrated ability in training, supervising, and developing staff.Demonstrated organisational skills with a proven ability to determine workload priorities, meet stringent deadlines, and display sound professional ethics such as confidentiality and discretion.Previous experience in the use of electronic case management systems and proficiency in the use of word processing, email, and the Internet.A thorough operational knowledge of court practices, procedures, legislation, and rules relevant to the Local Court in the Northern Territory or the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge.Knowledge of applicable financial legislation and policies including Financial Management Act, Treasurer's Directions, Financial Delegations, and Departmental Policies, or the ability to quickly acquire the level of knowledge required.Desirable: Current Senior First Aid CertificateCurrent Driver's LicenseFurther Information: The successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal history check.
