This is a full-time continuing position with salary in the range $98,582.63 - $107,349.47 (HEW 7), plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%.
Lead and support a culture of safety and well-being, providing expert advice and guidance to ensure compliance with HSW regulations and best practices.
The position will primarily support either the St Lucia, Dutton Park or Herston precincts, though may be required to work flexibly across other precincts to adapt to peak workload periods and/or staff absence.
About This OpportunityThe newly established Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences will be an interdisciplinary powerhouse of innovation and collaboration to lead integrated solutions to the needs of the communities we serve locally and globally. UQ offers one of the widest ranges of health and behavioural sciences programs of any Australian university, and the ambition for this new Faculty will be to leverage its unified suite of esteemed schools, institutes and centres to unlock opportunities within UQ and with external partners.
The Senior Coordinator, Health, Safety & Wellness will provide HSW and regulatory advice to clients and stakeholders and collaborate with the wide Faculty and central HSW team to provide practical assistance, advice and oversight to assist with implementing best practice in HSW management systems. In addition, this position will also assist in the implementation of the HSW strategy and promote the highest practical standard of HSW, while supporting and encouraging a positive safety culture and facilitating compliance with legislation and national standards.
Key responsibilities will include:
Advise and support stakeholders to meet their Work Health and Safety (WHS) responsibilities.
Provide guidance to stakeholders on risk mitigation systems and resources, risk assessments, and hazard control, while implementing activities to improve safety and efficiency.
Assist with emergency responses, incident and hazard reports and investigations, workplace safety inspections, and incident and hazard data collation and analysis.
Assist with the identification and mitigation of emerging risks.
Ensure emergency procedures and key personnel (e.g., fire wardens, first aid, mental health first aiders) contact details are maintained in collaboration with relevant teams.
Support HSW inductions, mandatory training, and development initiatives to foster a positive safety culture.
Provide safety advice and technical support on areas like biologicals, chemicals, radiation, and psychosocial safety, and undertake specialist responsibilities such as serving as an authorised Drugs Officer.
About You4 years of experience and/or relevant qualifications in health and safety management systems, or a similar relevant field.
Strong understanding of HSW principles, legislation, and the ability to apply them in research, clinical, and teaching environments.
Well-developed IT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new systems including the University's risk management and incident reporting database.
Exhibit excellent time management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Demonstrated capacity to work well alone and in small teams.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation development, data collation and analysis, and writing complex documents.
Ability to influence individual and team stakeholders and foster a positive HSW culture and good workplace safety practice.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment and may be required to complete background checks including criminal history and education checks.
