Under the Youth Justice Act 1992, a restorative justice conference Convenor must be approved (accredited) by the Chief Executive.Successful applicants must hold or are required to gain accreditation to convene sexual offence conferences.It is a requirement to maintain convenor accreditation by successfully undertaking ongoing re-assessment of practice skills and knowledge as required by departmental policies.Drivers' license: it is a mandatory requirement for the occupant of this position to hold an unrestricted 'c' class driver's licence as officers are required to drive Government vehicles as a part of their day-to-day work.Blue card: this role provides support services to children and young people and therefore will require a valid Blue Card with the organisation. Please refer to the Blue Card Services website (http://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au/) for further information.Travel away from centre: while the position is based in Townsville, travel within the region for site visits and to other regional offices will be required in this role. This may include overnight stays.As Senior Convenor, you will:Conduct youth justice conferences, acting in authority under the Youth Justice Act 1992 and working within the principles of the Act.Manage a caseload of restorative justice referrals, including sexual offence referrals and mentor and accredit Convenors to facilitate complex Restorative Justice matters, including sexual offence referrals across the region.Provide practice support to restorative justice staff under the direction of the Service Leader and/or Manager to assist in the facilitation of complex matters and the maintenance of quality assurance in restorative justice conferencing service delivery.Assist in monitoring the suitability, feasibility of and compliance with restorative justice conference agreements.Assist the Service Leader in the induction and approval of trainee convenors and in providing ongoing support and mentoring of convenors across the region.Report to and support the Youth Justice Service Centre and/or regional management teams by contributing to strategic and operational planning, reviews and key decision making.Assist the Service Leader to develop effective local relationships with relevant Government and non-Government agencies to facilitate cooperation on case related matters to ensure informed, integrated, and holistic youth justice service delivery.Provide assistance to the Service Leader in the allocation, prioritisation, and quality assurance of tasks in relation to the service delivery of restorative justice conferencing in accordance with departmental procedures and statutory delegations.Provide training and information as required for Government and non-Government agencies, stakeholders, and other relevant parties.Maintain and monitor recording and reporting systems specific to restorative justice conferencing.Contribute to a Departmental culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as an appreciation of cultural protocols and an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices.Delegations:Senior Convenors have a range of statutory delegations under the Youth Justice Act 1992.Applications to remain current for 12 months.Job Ad Reference: QLD/598386/24Closing Date: Tuesday, 5th November 2024This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
