About the team The Digital Communication team is a centralised content operations and omnichannel management function in the department's Communications branch.
We specialise in UX content strategy and design, front-end web development, and cross-channel promotion.
We're responsible for managing and optimising the department's external content on digital communications and engagement channels and platforms including: industry.gov.au consult.industry.gov.au social media newsletters.
Our approach includes: Maintaining a holistic view of the department's strategic priorities and customer and stakeholder needs.
This ensures our channels provide current, targeted, integrated and useful information, products and services.
Partnering with subject matter experts across the department to determine how meet business goals with user-centred content and content marketing solutions.
Partnering with communications colleagues on copywriting, editing, campaign planning, content marketing and promotional activities.
Our ideal candidate You're someone who: Is experienced in website content design – you're familiar with information architecture, navigation, taxonomies, content models, content types, design components, automation, content lifecycles and content management systems.
You have demonstrated experience designing user-centred, integrated, scalable and repeatable content solutions that complement the website holistically.
Has excellent research and analysis skills – you're naturally curious, you assume nothing and question everything.
You use critical thinking, inquiry and research methods to gather data and insights to inform content discussions, solutions and continuous improvements.
Maintains a strategic and birds-eye view – you proactively research strategic priorities and look for departmental and cross-agency linkages.
You design and implement user-centred content that meets business needs and considers the whole-of-government content landscape to reduce duplication and manage risk.
Collaborates, advocates and negotiates – you have exceptional interpersonal communication skills and enjoy actively facilitating or participating in collaborative problem-solving activities.
You're confident advocating on behalf of the user and respectfully propose different ideas or perspectives.
Is an excellent writer and editor – you appreciate people need to understand government information quickly and easily.
You know how to identify critical messages, top tasks and keywords and develop them into structured, readable and findable content.

Has worked in Australian Government departments as a Content Designer – you have experience or training in service design, UX research or UX design.

What you will do The Senior Content and Service Designer will partner and collaborate with subject matter experts and communications colleagues across the department to design user-centred content for the department's website and consultation platform.
Key duties Designing content through an end-to-end content co-design process.
This includes: discovering, defining, developing and delivering effective content solutions in line with Australian Government style and accessibility requirements translating complex information into more readable, inclusive and engaging copy ensuring content meets quality assurance, digital and design system requirements publishing content to websites (GovCMS/Drupal, Converlens).
Facilitating or participating in cross-functional discussions and workshops with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to identify business and user needs.
This includes championing content design best practice and content governance requirements.
Leading website content redevelopment projects.
This includes managing relationships across key business areas, scoping work, auditing content, evaluating data and contributing to UX/UI design, testing, validation and delivery.
Improving service design and delivery through the website.
This includes understanding users, their tasks, journeys, pain points and experiences across the whole service.
It may also involve mapping services and helping business areas streamline processes to support effective and integrated digital services.
Routinely reviewing and keeping track of legislation, administrative arrangements orders, corporate plans, budget measures, business plans, communications strategies, existing government information, products and services to determine: strategic content priorities department and agency remits shared audiences digital touchpoints user journeys and needs.
Proactively evaluating qualitative and quantitative user research data (for example, surveys and interviews, search queries and analytics) to determine user needs and improvements.
Contributing to or developing guidance and governance materials to improve content design capability, production and workflows.
Eligibility To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
