The Portfolio Strategy Division is the department's central policy area. The division supports our ministers and the department to engage with the complex cross-cutting policy challenges in Australian climate, energy, environment and water policy. We lead on the Cabinet and Budget processes, strategic policy, First Nations policy, whole-of-portfolio projects, and work to build the department's policy capability.
The Communication and Media Branch delivers excellent strategic communication advice and services that puts our audiences first for a more prosperous and sustainable Australia. This includes the delivery of communication strategies, campaigns, research, procurement and all staff event management to support the priorities of the department and government. We also manage the department's digital platforms and websites, social media channels and Contact Centre, and provide media support, and creative (video and design) services across the department and for our ministerial offices.
Communication Strategy and Services Section provides strategic communications advice to relevant divisions in the department to deliver communications products and services.
Corporate Communications and Creative Services Section drives employee engagement through events and storytelling to ensure staff are aware of the department's strategic priorities. The section provides communication support to the Secretary and executive as well as developing, implementing and evaluating corporate communication strategies, managing the department's internal communication channels and delivering event activities.
This recruitment round will be used to fill the positions outlined below, as well as other future vacancies that may arise in any section across the Branch.

Senior Communications Officer, Communication Strategy and Services
Canberra, Brisbane or Melbourne
In this position you will be responsible for:

Providing evidence-based communication advice and support to client areas from across the environment and water or energy and climate change portfolios. Developing and implementing communication plans aligned with departmental priorities. Identifying target audiences, drafting key messages, researching effective channels and evaluating your success. Building and sustaining productive relationships with your clients, colleagues and stakeholders. Working closely with your colleagues and communication delivery teams such as graphic design, video production, social media and digital experience to draw on and share specialist knowledge. Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the impact of communication plans and activities. Preparing ministerial submissions, briefs and correspondence. Senior Communications Officer, Corporate Communications and Creative Services
Canberra, Brisbane or Sydney
In this position you will be responsible for:
Drafting executive messaging and providing communication advice and support to client areas from across the department. Leading the development, implementation and evaluation of internal communication strategies and plans, in collaboration with client areas. Developing written content for a range of internal channels aligning messaging to departmental strategic objectives. Publishing news content on the intranet using SharePoint Online. Supporting the section's colleagues with running in-person and live-streamed events. What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
Experience working in communications. Experience working in government or a large organisation. Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following: internal communications; developing, implementing and evaluating communication strategies; social media development and management; government advertising campaigns. Skills and capabilities
High-level oral and written communication skills. Strong judgment, attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to build good relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines and cover a wide breadth of subjects. Ability to deliver projects from start to finish, monitoring and reporting on project progress and adjusting plans and activities as required. Eligibility
Mandatory qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in communications, media, public relations, marketing fields; OR A cadetship or other relevant public affairs degree or diploma; OR 5 years relevant work experience.
