The primary focus of this role is to support both our Cloud environments as well as supporting the broader team. You'll be a thorough, methodical specialist with a fundamental commitment to security, automation, and quality. IDP is committed to the AWS Well Architected Framework and its five pillars. The Senior Cloud Engineer will focus on the Operational Excellence pillar - managing and automating changes, responding to events, and defining standards to successfully manage daily operations.Key accountabilitiesContinuously push IDP towards AWS Best Practice and AWS Well-Architected frameworks. You will continuously review our environment against AWS Best Practice and Well Architected standards.Experience with the core AWS services (e.g., EC2, RDS, ELB, EBD, S3, VPC, Glacier, IAM) to develop and maintain an Amazon AWS based cloud solution.Automating application and infrastructure delivery utilizing CI/CD best practices.Participate in the delivery and support of serverless cloud infrastructure using AWS tools such as Cloud Formation, Lambda, and other serverless offerings.Working within the Infrastructure Team to support a diverse range of infrastructure across the IDP business including traditional virtualization and Cloud technologies, Active Directory, ADFS, Azure AD, and AWS.Utilize scripting to provision well-architected, scalable, and rightsized infrastructure.Drive IDP security practices across the IDP business. With every other member of the team, you'll be an expert voice in ensuring that Security and Privacy are a fundamental part of every design and deliverable.Maintain your knowledge on best practices, evolving threats, and opportunities to improve the performance, agility, and cost effectiveness.Routine Monitoring and Reporting - You'll review these regularly with the Infrastructure leadership. In cloud, you will regularly utilize AWS features such as Trusted Advisor, Guard Duty, and Well-Architected tools and produce actionable plans.Participate in high-profile Delivery Projects - You will work in a virtual team with the Development, Support, Testing, and Service Desk to ensure the delivery of high-quality services and applications.Mentor and participate in Team Development.Strong communication skills – both written and verbal. You'll be relied on by leadership and other technical specialists for advice and direction – you must be able to communicate clearly and accurately.A sense of urgency and fundamental commitment to quality.Required experienceThe ideal candidate will be cross-skilled in supporting and maintaining Infrastructure systems including Linux, Windows Server, VMware, SAN, Cloud PAAS, SAAS (AWS, Azure, Office365) environments, with primary focus on the AWS platform. You'll be someone who gets a kick out of being a critical member of a high performing team, personally producing outcomes that accelerate IDP's agenda to support students in their life-long study journey.3-5 years hands-on cloud engineering/data pipeline experience in AWS services with particular focus on the day-to-day operations.AWS core services - EC2, VPCs, RDS, SNS, SQS, Microservices, IAM, Route 53, Lambda, Lambda/API Gateway.Ability to estimate usage costs and identify operational cost control mechanisms.Automating application and infrastructure delivery utilizing CI/CD best practices.Practical experience of how to utilize CI/CD pipelines to maximize quality in a development team.AWS Certified in one of the following AWS Solutions Architect, SysOps, Developer, Cloud, DevOps professional or associate.Knowledge of cloud monitoring tools (e.g., Stax Spotlight, Datadog, AppDynamics, CloudTrail, Splunk).You'll have great experience in how to design and implement high quality integrations – particularly de-coupled Pub/Sub.You'll be assertive in the implementation of your wide experience in how to create Enterprise Grade solutions that are scalable, secure, performant, observable, and low maintenance.Strong communication skills – both written and verbal. You'll be relied on by leadership and other technical specialists for advice and direction – you must be able to communicate clearly and accurately.Provide productive contributions to the creation of the team's patterns.Bachelors or master's in software engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline.
