Due to rapid growth and expansion we are looking for a Senior Chemist.
Purpose of the role... As one of our Senior Chemists, you will be responsible for leading R&D projects in the Science team that will deliver R&D projects for our industry partners.
This will include but not be limited to operating lab scale and pilot scale reactors, conducting routine laboratory tasks and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
This role requires a PhD in chemistry, with industry experience, strong attention to detail, excellent communication and team management skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities ... Leading R&D projects Lead and manage R&D projects to develop new processes and improve existing ones with a focus on analysis of textiles and materials for recycling processing. Independently design and conduct experiments, analyse results, and deliver reports for external industry partners. Perform trials of new feedstocks, ensuring systematic evaluation and successful integration into the chemical recycling processes. Conduct thorough analysis of trial data and prepare comprehensive reports on findings to inform decision-making. Supervise junior chemists and laboratory technicians, providing guidance, training, and support. Analyse and refine processes based on trial outcomes to enhance efficiency, yield, and quality of recycled products. Operating lab scale and pilot scale chemical reactors: Prepare reaction mixtures and set-ups. Perform routine operation of chemical reactors, including 2L and 10L pressure reactors. Develop and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure proper setup, operation, and maintenance of the reactors. Monitor reactions and adjust parameters as needed to optimize results. Routine operation of analytic instruments: Perform routine operation, calibration, and maintenance of analytic instruments including HPLC and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Troubleshoot instrument issues and perform minor repairs as needed. Collect and analyse data generated from instrument runs. People, project and data management: Utilise MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to organize and manage data. Prepare detailed technical reports, research papers, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. Communicate results to team members and stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, encouraging professional growth. The following attributes are required: PhD in chemistry with 4+ years experience in industry. Proficiency in analytical techniques (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, UVVis) and laboratory equipment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and analysis. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and optimize complex chemical processes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Proven leadership abilities to manage and mentor a team of chemists and technicians. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively. We're open to the background and experience of the successful candidate, however the following attributes are preferred:
Dye Analysis Expertise: Proven experience in developing methods for the analysis of dyes, covering identification, quantification, and characterization of various dye compounds using colorimetric analysis and spectrophotometry (UV-Visible and infrared spectroscopy), with the ability to interpret complex spectra. The successful candidate will be a purpose-driven team player who is inspired by an opportunity to have impact in the world.
