The Data Science and Analytics team at St John WA uses data analysis and visualisation tools to help the organisation make informed decisions to better serve the community.
This role reports to either the Manager Strategic Analytics or Manager Operational Analytics (depending on assigned priorities) and is based at our State Office in Belmont.
The broader Data Science and Analytics team operates as an in-house consulting function for analysis and decision support services, translating business problems into:
Analysis;
Automated information products;
Advanced analytics and data science services; and/or
Advice and recommendations.
Current team members have diverse backgrounds with qualifications including physics, mathematics, engineering, health, psychology and business, and have previously worked across the government, private, academic, consulting, and defence sectors.
An exciting opportunity is now available for one Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to join the team. This is a permanent full-time position.

What you'll do:
You will be part of a highly capable, motivated and collegial team. As a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst you will enable decision making through data analysis, reporting products, and advice on data and statistical matters.
In a typical day you might:
Meet with senior managers to understand a decision they need your help to make.
Engage domain experts to understand the business process and how real-world actions are recorded in front-end systems.
Identify, extract, analyse, and visualise relevant data, and then present your results and recommendations via an easy-to-understand report, infographic, or interactive dashboard.
Proactively troubleshoot and problem solve any issues that arise.
Document and coach other team members on what you've learnt about business processes, data sources, and definitions.
Use project management skills to organise and plan your approach.
What you'll need:
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
Natural or learned critical thinking skills,
Gratification working with complex data sets to identify insights,
Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to engage and influence key stakeholders,
Excellent attention to detail,
Strong planning skills,
Ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment,
Ability to conceptualise and articulate complex concepts to non-domain experts, and
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business needs into reporting solutions.
It is also beneficial (but not necessary) if you have:
Knowledge of database and business intelligence concepts;
Exposure or experience in common industry tools such as Power BI, and SQL Server Management Studio, as well as coding or query languages; and
Exposure or experience with project management methodologies e.g. PRINCE 2, PMBOK, Agile or similar.
Qualifications:
Tertiary qualification in a quantitative subject (such as mathematics, business, science, engineering, or information technology) or professional experience in a relevant field.
