Transport Services is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for maintaining Victoria's transport system.
About the RoleWest Gate Bridge is a vital link in Melbourne's transport system and because of its age, scale and complexity the bridge places a heavy burden of responsibility on the Corporation to ensure those occupying key roles in the management of the bridge possess the skills necessary to assume these responsibilities on behalf of the Corporation.
The Senior Bridge Engineer Role, within the West Gate Bridge Management Team (WGBMT), is responsible for the development, management and delivery of complex projects and associated documentation. The Role is based on site and encompasses a wide range of works, from routine maintenance and rehabilitation to large scale capital works, all while ensuring the WGB is kept operational and safe. The WGBMT is a part of the Inner Metro, Transport Services division and looks after the maintenance and rehabilitation of the WGB as one of the most critical assets of Victoria. The Role's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Monitoring and maintaining vital structural components and assets of the West Gate Bridge.Managing and delivering a wide range of projects to scope, budget, time and quality.Preparing, tendering and administering contracts for bridge works.Financial management, including project estimation and forecasting.Provision of technical advice to key stakeholders and contractors.Construction verification and supervision.Reviewing quality, safety, financial and environmental documentation.Work scheduling and resource management.Your Outcomes and AccountabilitiesIn accordance with project scope, co-ordinate the planning, work scheduling and resource management matters relating to the delivery of the bridge maintenance sub-program including the management of physical works on-site and the direct supervision of these works (including routine, periodic and rehabilitation maintenance).In accordance with project scope, co-ordinate the preparation and administration of contracts for bridge management works along with the accurate reporting and forecasting.Exercise professional independent judgment in the development and delivery of the contract, including OHS, control of expenditure and physical targets in accordance with the contract plan, procedure and assessments as well as relevant legislative requirements and DTP policy.Provide sound advice to key stakeholders on structures and assist in the structure program development and strategies including enquiries from municipalities, property owners and public issues related to the delivery of the program works.Exercise professional independent judgement in the preparation/identification/submission of program bids that meet Network & Asset Planning guidelines for bridge periodic and rehabilitation works.Key Selection CriteriaWe're looking for an innovative thinker with strong problem-solving skills to join our team and drive continuous improvement across our operations. In project delivery, you'll translate strategies into actionable projects, establishing governance structures to track progress, manage risks, and boost success rates. Data literacy is essential; you'll determine data collection and analysis techniques to generate valuable insights for decision-making, possibly contributing expertise in data modeling.
Bringing strong business acumen, you'll guide expenditure decisions, maximize value in business cases, and manage contracts effectively. You'll also handle challenging conversations, coaching others through negotiations and fostering collaborative resolutions.
Stakeholder management is key to this role; you'll build partnerships by understanding shared issues, responding to needs, and aligning outcomes with organizational goals. You'll also prioritize knowledge management and business continuity, ensuring these are integral to project risk management and team development.
