We are looking for a technical Animal Biosecurity & Welfare Officer to join our high-performance team at Biosecurity Queensland.

Independently conduct & oversee activities to achieve efficient and effective delivery of operational goals working and in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions. As a leader, model and nurture a positive team culture & actively contribute to team capability development by coaching, guiding colleagues and sharing your knowledge, skills and experience. As our Senior Biosecurity Officer, you will provide operational services that protect and enhance animal biosecurity and welfare in Queensland.

Undertake compliance activities under Queensland legislation Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 and the Biosecurity Act 2014. Participate and contribute to disease surveillance and emergency responses activities, which may include collection of samples from live and deceased animals. Engage and support the development of strong mutually beneficial relationships with community, agricultural and livestock industries and internal and external stakeholders. Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) is one of the integral DAF business groups, leading the government's efforts to prevent, respond to and recover from pests and diseases threatening agricultural prosperity, the environment, social amenity and human health. We achieve this by maintaining access to markets, protecting animal welfare and reducing the risk of contamination from agricultural management.

Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) - ABW supports BQ's efforts to prevent, respond to and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to market. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DAF response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.
