Support transformative bioinformatics initiatives at Sydney Informatics Hub Full time, fixed term until December 2026 Base Salary $108,557 - $118,267 + 17% superannuation About the opportunity The Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH) is a Core Research Facility at the University, offering data services and support to researchers across faculties, initially focusing on software engineering and analytics but now expanding to include Research Computing, Statistical Consulting, and Research Data Strategy.
As an official node of the Australian BioCommons, SIH contributes to enhancing the productivity and capacity of Australian research biologists and bioinformaticians.
As a Senior Bioinformatician , you will contribute to the Australian BioCommons mission to empower life scientists with digital infrastructure, providing expertise in bioinformatics software engineering and training.
Collaborating with University of Sydney researchers, you'll develop open-source tools and services tailored to national priorities like precision medicine and environmental conservation.
Reporting to the Bioinformatics Group Lead, your key responsibilities will be to: collaborate within cross-functional teams across SIH, Uni of Sydney, and Australian BioCommons utilise expertise in high-performance computing and bioinformatics to design and implement impactful solutions lead bioinformatics analyses, data engineering, and software projects develop and deliver training events for the National Bioinformatics Training Cooperative strengthen team capabilities in software development and translational bioinformatics cultivate an engineering ethos to support bioinformatics initiatives throughout Uni of Sydney About you Are you eager to work on groundbreaking bioinformatics projects, collaborate with leading researchers, and drive scientific discovery at the University of Sydney?

tertiary qualifications or working experience in relevant field (bioinformatics, computational biology) skilled in designing scalable workflows to optimise high-throughput bioinformatics pipelines, ensuring efficient, accurate, and well-coordinated production processes extensive Linux/UNIX experience; skilled in Python, R, Singularity, Docker, Git, Nextflow expertise in Next Generation Sequencing and omics data analysis; skilled in HPC, cloud computing strong communication, project management skills for effective collaboration ability to balance priorities, and meet project timelines efficiently.

For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.
Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
