Senior Associate - Public Law & Regulatory Compliance SENIOR ASSOCIATE - PUBLIC LAW & REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Associate to join our Public Law & Regulatory Compliance team in Melbourne. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 6 years PAE working with government clients in private practice.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • Providing legal advice on statutory interpretation and administrative decision-making and public law compliance obligations;
• Advising on and appearing in merits review and judicial review proceedings for various State Government regulators in various different areas;
• Acting as counsel assisting for Government regulators;
• Acting for the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) and the National Boards in disciplinary proceedings against registered health practitioners;
• Representing government bodies including the Department of Justice and Community Safety in bringing applications for supervision orders for serious offenders;
• Delivering Continuing Professional Development and legal information presentations/workshops to clients;
• Developing training programs and reference tools – paid for clients in making effective administrative decisions;
• Attending and appearing in Directions hearings;
• Mentoring junior lawyers and law graduates;
• Marketing and business development activities to grow the Practice; and 
• Any other reasonable duties as directed by senior staff.
Skills / Knowledge: • Strong administrative law and statutory interpretation skills.
• Effective negotiation skills. 
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Well-developed initiative, with demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically.
• A high standard of written and oral communication skills.
• Well-developed and effective Business Development skills.
• A practical and commercial approach to issues.
• Capable of working with limited supervision.
