Aboutthe role and team We have anopportunity for an experienced Senior Associate or Special Counselto join our General Insurance practice in Canberra.
Thisopportunity suits someone at a senior level who is looking for arole where they can take on-the-ground ownership of a practice inCanberra, alongside a highly regarded Partner and Special Counselwho are based in Sydney. A short-to-medium track topartnership will be considered for the right candidate.
This rolewill focus primarily on the defence of personal injury claimsacross public and product liability. You will be responsiblefor and have carriage of your own files, with appropriatesupervision and support.
Keyresponsibilities You will beinvolved in a variety of matters including:
reviewing documents andpreparing evidence; draftingcorrespondence to the Court and third parties; conference withwitnesses and preparing witness statements; supervising andmentoring junior lawyers; preparing briefs forcounsel; draftingCourt documents and attendance at Court; draftingclient advices; and draftingletters of instruction to experts. Skills andexperience We are keento hear from candidates with the following skills andexperience:
aminimum of five years of post admission experience in insurancelitigation; ideallyyou will have experience with defendant personal injury claims,specifically within general liability (however we are also opento candidates with a plaintiff background); clear,concise legal writing skills with strong attention todetail; theability to supervise and mentor junior lawyers; and agenuine interest in leading and contributing to the growth andsuccess of our Canberra general liability practice.
