That's why our team was honoured as Who's Who Legal's Construction Expert Witness Firm of the Year for 2023 and ranked #1 in the Global Arbitration Expert Witness Firms' Power Index for 2024.RESPONSIBILITIESWe are looking for an ambitious, self-motivated, and proactive team player to join our growing team of highly experienced quantity surveying experts, based in our Perth office. The ideal candidate will be a quantity surveying or civil engineer professional with at least 5 years' experience of working on construction and engineering projects with either a consultant, contractor, or client. Your primary duties as a Senior Associate will be to provide support to testifying Expert Witnesses, with a long-term view of one day becoming a testifying expert in your own right.Some of the tasks you will fulfil in this role will be as follows:Supporting world-renowned Quantum experts in dispute resolution, litigation support and expert witness evidence.Performing advanced data research, management and analysis, and assisting in drafting expert reports.Reviewing documentation (e.g. drawings, specifications, reports, estimates, variations, correspondence and financial data) to identify key details and metrics used to develop expert reports.Developing a keen understanding of all relevant information pertaining to legal disputes on large projects.Quantifying cost overruns and damages (undertaking measurement take-offs and preparing estimates where applicable).Managing the workload and tasks of the project team.Managing budgets and fee reports.Assisting in analysis or preparation of claims.Actively participating and/or leading management, development and training of your team members.Actively participating and/or leading client meetings and organising client-related events.Continuing to build Secretariat's reputation in the construction and legal community.REQUIREMENTSThe successful candidate is likely to possess the following or similar qualifications:Bachelor's degree in building construction, engineering, quantity surveying or related field.5 or more years' experience in a relevant field of quantity surveying, cost engineering, contracts management, construction management.Strong software skills: MS Office Suite (especially Word & Excel), CostX / BIM / Buildsoft / Expert Estimation or similar.Excellent written and verbal skills.Experience in the preparation of first principles construction cost estimates.Experience in writing or contributing to Quantum Expert reports.Familiarity with construction cost management.Broad experience across a range of construction/engineering projects.Proficient with Microsoft Excel and comfortable with large sets of data.Able to adapt to a dynamic consultancy environment.Able to develop creative approaches and solutions necessary to resolve complex problems.Able to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.Excellent communication and presentation skills.Willing to occasionally travel internationally.DESIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTESWe value people who possess a curious, analytical mind and are motivated problem solvers.Ambitious, enthusiastic and with a hunger to learn and develop professionally.Reliable, hardworking and collaborative.Demonstrates a high level of spoken and written English.Keen eye for detail.Communicates clearly and concisely to a non-technical audience.Demonstrates varied experience and sound understanding of live construction and engineering projects.WHY JOIN OUR TEAM?Work within a team of world recognised leading experts in an established leading global consultancy.Gain exposure to varied and challenging problems across several industry sectors.A supportive workplace culture with career progression and mentorship opportunities.Employee led initiatives in diversity, inclusion and social responsibility.Competitive remuneration package and benefits.Secretariat is an equal opportunity employer.
