The Environment section of the Risk Assessment Capability (RAC) program have a vacancy for a Senior Assessor at the APS6 classification.
Located in either Canberra ACT or regional Armidale NSW, you will gain experience in the Australian Public Service, have access to a variety of flexible working arrangements, and contribute to meaningful work impacting on Australian people, animals and the environment.
The Role The Senior Assessor, Environment, will work with a team of highly experienced scientists managing all aspects of environmental assessments for existing and proposed new uses of ag-vet chemicals including the evaluation of hazard data, undertaking exposure assessments and making recommendations on the risks associated with these uses.
The Senior Assessor will be responsible for providing expert advice to internal and external stakeholders on environmental matters relating to agvet chemicals and assist in making regulatory decisions in accordance with legislation.
The Senior Assessor will prepare high level written material incorporating scientific/technical considerations to contribute to briefs to decision makers, and undertake special projects related to environmental safety.
To be a strong contender for the role, you will have: Appropriate tertiary qualifications relevant to the assessment of environmental toxicology or exposure assessment.
A sound knowledge of the regulatory framework in which the APVMA operates in the assessment and approval of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.
Ability to balance workflows and prioritise workloads and tasks to deliver high quality outcomes.
Analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to evaluate and provide pragmatic advice.
Ability to work in a team environment using effective interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with well-developed written communication skills.
Postgraduate qualifications in chemistry, environmental toxicology, agricultural or animal science or related biological sciences.
