It also provides grants to community groups and non-government organisations to expand services to support people and offers interpreting services in 110 languages, including several First Nations.Position OverviewThe Senior Assessment Officer is a role within Community Investment and Support and is accountable to the Team Leader, Assessment for:Assessing applications for screening checks, particularly risk assessing whether a person's prior conduct indicates they pose a current unacceptable risk of harm to children and other vulnerable people in accordance with relevant legislative frameworks, policies and procedures.Gathering and reviewing relevant information to write the reasons for an assessment decision.Working as a member of a team to manage workloads and complete screening assessments within required timelines.Developing and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Key Outcomes and AccountabilitiesMake sound risk assessment decisions regarding applicants who wish to work in prescribed positions with children, people with a disability, and other vulnerable people referred for medium/high risk assessment, including making determinations in accordance with the approvals authorisation matrix and recognising when decisions require escalation.Prepare high-quality written documents, including concise and coherent reasons for an assessment decision.Represent the Screening Unit in committees, forums, and working groups.Provide timely, accurate, and professional interactions with applicants that reflect the values of the Public Sector.Build, manage, and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with peers, staff, and stakeholders and interact respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department.
