We're committed to creating a diverse workplace and inclusive culture.About the team:The City Design business unit is responsible for providing architectural, urban design services and managing the physical, economic and social revitalisation of commercial centre public areas across the Gold Coast to deliver attractive, vibrant places that embrace community needs and deliver contemporary, world class business and tourist destinations.About your new role:We are seeking an experienced Senior Architect to provide architectural and urban design research, education, and expert advice to promote urban design outcomes for the city.Key Responsibilities:Provide architectural and urban design expert assessment and recommendations for development applications and to liaise closely with City Development to achieve good built form outcomes.Provide architectural and urban design research, education, and expert advice to promote good architecture and urban design outcomes for City projects and initiatives.Contribute to the development, review, amendment and implementation of policy and programs for the management, protection and promotion of good architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and local character areas within the City.Collaborate with other government authorities in relation to works concerning the City's architecture and urban design ensuring the City's liveability is considered.Provide advocacy in responding to the City's land use planning challenges in terms of architecture, urban design and landscape architecture.We're looking for people who have:A master's degree of Architecture and are a registered architect with the Queensland Board of Architects.Minimum 10 years of architectural technical experience across private architecture practice and local government (i.e., brief writing, design, design review, documentation, specification, project management, contract administration, procurement).High level interpersonal and communication skills, both writing and verbal and illustrative, including conflict resolution skills in negotiating and influencing important projects to promote high quality architecture and urban design.Knowledge of existing and emerging construction processes and methodology.Knowledge of National Construction Code and Australian Standards and other regulatory and statutory requirements: Architects Act, Building Act, Planning Act, Disability Discrimination Act, WHS Act and WHSQ Safe Design of Structures Code of Practice, Council by-laws, Council strategies, policies and planning scheme.Good experience leading complex meetings, to prioritise key issues and seek resolutions and providing clear technical advice as a registered architect to enable desired outcomes.Good project management qualifications and experience to coordinate and manage internal and external facing projects and resources to achieve goals and meet tight deadlines.Proficient and technical analytical and problem-solving skills drawing from extensive industry knowledge including architecture, urban design and planning.Technical knowledge and experience in preparation of policies and guidelines for architecture and urban design.Research and analysis to support policy development.High degree of presentation skills to Committee, Executive officers, stakeholders and community consultation.High ability to manage a range of tight deadlines across multiple projects.High level of technical knowledge and experience working collaboratively and with teams where there are diverse and often conflicting values.Ability to work under limited direction, take initiative and ensure the completion of tasks independently and through supporting others to achieve successful outcomes.Work in complex frameworks, analyse and prioritise multifaceted levels of information and convert ideas and objectives into action plan and programs.Proven ability to work collaboratively with team members and supervise/coach staff.How to apply:Click 'Apply' to submit your online application.
