What you'll do
Challenger Life is Australia's largest provider of annuities and provides regular income to thousands of customers.
We're a multi-award-winning Life Company and have $25 billion in assets under management (as at 30 June 2024).
As our Senior Analyst, Business Performance, you'll be assisting in the monthly production of reporting and analysis for senior management and our board, including creating the normalised profit result, analysing variances to budget, monthly P&L and balance sheet analysis, and quarterly and semi-annual ASX and market disclosures.
We'll also look to you to identify opportunities to innovate and improve business processes to increase efficiencies and reduce risk.
Other key responsibilities will include:
Analysis and explanation of P&L and balance sheet movements across the full suite of Challenger Life's financial assets: fixed income, property, alternatives, equities and infrastructure portfolios.
Understanding and reporting on fixed income attribution- FX, interest rates, credit spread etc; Understanding new transactions and systems and assessing their impact on the team.
Preparation and posting of journals into the general ledger (Workday) for application of Challenger's management reporting framework.
Deal with key senior stakeholders, including: the CEO, the CFO; the Life Chief Executive; the Life CFO, Appointed Actuary; the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Managers; Challenger Life Company and Group Boards and Investor Relations.
You will also have the opportunity to gain exposure and experience in:
Preparation of month-end reporting pack and commentary.
Monitoring credit quality of the fixed income portfolio.
Analyst pack preparation.
ASX FUM reporting and accompanying explanations.
Project work and ongoing process improvements.
Integration of data analytics from a recently announced partnership with State Street for investment administration.
Exposure to Anaplan modelling system, dependent on experience.
The skills you'll need
You'll need to hold a tertiary qualification in Finance/Accounting/Economics or other relevant degree background as well as having at least 3-5 years relevant experience within banking, financial services and/or investment management in an analyst type role.
You'll be a strong user of MS Office in particular Microsoft Excel and be comfortable working with large amounts of data with the ability to synthesise into meaningful insights and analysis.
You'll use your strong communication and interpersonal skills to help share complex data in a concise and clear manner.
You'll also have
Good knowledge of financial products (e.g., fixed income/equities/bonds).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of being able to break down problems, identify key issues and remedy with a range of different options.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Highly desirable
Experience of using SQL (Writing queries, database design/management).
Experience with Anaplan or other multi-dimensional planning tool (e.g., TM1) is highly regarded but not essential.
