We are seeking a Senior Advisor (Traffic Systems) who will ensure our traffic management systems perform optimally. You will provide technical expertise for our Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) and directly oversee its operation, ensuring smooth traffic flow on both state and local government roads. You will work as part of the team specialising in configuring and optimising statewide arterial corridors and motorway corridors in South East Queensland.

As part of your responsibilities, you'll investigate, analyse, and review traffic operations related to traffic signal and freeway management systems. You'll oversee both internal and external activities to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow through the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). This includes advising road project managers, maintenance providers, and regional transport planners on optimisation aspects of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects. Additionally, you'll develop and implement effective traffic management solutions for state-controlled and local government roads using the department's ATMS, known as STREAMS. The team provides real-time network optimisation support, analyse localised network performance, and addresses network efficiency inquiries, including nals and coordination.
Offering expert technical and operational advice is crucial. You'll guide both internal and external stakeholders on strategies to optimise traffic performance across the network.
You'll continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of traffic flow strategies. Adjustments to system parameters will be made to address any performance issues.
Investigating and resolving complex ITS and electrical management issues associated with the project is essential, ensuring overall performance improvement and value for money.
Utilise your traffic engineering practice and software programming expertise to create and review traffic signal personality for local system controls (e.g., traffic signals) that seamlessly integrate with STREAMS.
Additionally, maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders through clear and concise communication, including drafting comprehensive reports, briefing notes, and correspondence.
Lead various traffic management projects, including developing strategies and upgrading systems to support regional and local government ATMS. Create operational plans for local government traffic management and capture shared project learnings.

An ability to manage projects - Coordinating with stakeholders throughout a project's lifecycle, ensuring adherence to timeframes, budgets, and quality benchmarks and sharing project learnings.Stakeholder relationships - Cultivating and leveraging relationships to persuade others, resolve conflicts and achieve SNO Branch goals.Communication - Communicating in a way that conveys complex information and ideas and in a way that is appropriate for the audience.Collaboration - Fosters a working environment which exemplifies professionalism, integrity and respect for people while building team capability by sharing knowledge with other staff.Electrical infrastructure - Develops and contributes to best practice electrical/communications construction and maintenance procedures, systems and methodologies.Traffic and road safety engineering - Applies an in-depth understanding of traffic and road safety engineering and provides advice on best-practice solutions.Project systems - Applies a high level of project quality systems and tools knowledge and advises project staff on outcomes.Prior experience in the field of traffic and road safety is desirable.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions Current holder of Class C driver's license.
