The Senior Advisor, Corporate Communications and Media role is a Fixed Term, full time role up to the 30 June 2025.
MTPO, VIDA is seeking a Senior Advisor, Corporate Communications and Media.
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Communications and Media, this role will develop and deliver high-quality communications content for a variety of channels and audiences and effective media relations to support the completion and opening of the Metro Tunnel.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, experience in media liaison and ability to deliver high-quality outcomes in a complex and time-sensitive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement effective strategic communications, media relations, issues management and internal communications strategies to support the construction, completion and opening of the Metro Tunnel.
Develop high-quality project and corporate communications content that is clear, timely and accessible for targeted audiences across a variety of channels.
Content includes original media releases, articles, speeches, publications, presentations, internal and online content and other communications material.
Work with the Manager, Corporate Communications & Media and the Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs and other team members as required to develop media responses for media enquiries, online communication channels and other purposes.
Build and maintain relationships with media representatives from government, construction contractors, project partners and other key stakeholders to support effective media relations.
Liaise with media representatives and other internal and external stakeholders to generate awareness, understanding and support for the Metro Tunnel Project as it moves from construction to opening, promote its milestones and benefits, and tell the project story from different perspectives.
Provide authoritative and strategic advice on communication issues and risk mitigation to internal stakeholders including executives.
Support delivery of media events including liaising with media representatives, coordination with contractors, briefing senior executives for media appearances and staffing at media events when required.
Responsible for triaging and responding to urgent media queries on weekends, as required, as part of a rotating on-call roster with other members of the Corporate Communications and Media team (compensated in line with the VPS Enterprise Agreement 2024).
About you
Experience in media liaison and/or strategic communications with demonstrated ability to prepare and implement complex communications and issues management strategies.
Demonstrated expertise, flair and creativity in providing corporate and strategic communications advice including the ability to proactively identify opportunities, problem-solve and manage risks and expectations.
Demonstrated ability to achieve excellent communications outcomes in a complex political and/or commercial environment.
Highly developed written skills, especially in writing and presenting information that will be subject to public scrutiny.
Experience in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines.
High level communication, interpersonal and consultative skills including demonstrated capacity to manage sensitive issues and build and maintain positive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to think laterally and implement a corporate and strategic approach across all communications activities.
Willingness and ability to work co-operatively and creatively in a sensitive, complex and demanding environment, with a high degree of responsibility and self-management.
