About the role
The Senior Adviser within the Cabinet and Parliament Coordination Team will be providing specialist procedural advice, coordination, and administrative support to enable the fulfilment of parliamentary responsibilities, and compliance with Cabinet processes and protocols.
This position works closely with the relevant Departmental Liaison staff in ministerial offices, the Secretary's office, and the broader executive team to ensure the department and its agencies deliver high quality coordinated advice and correspondence to the portfolio ministers. The role supports operational delivery and identifies current or emerging issues within processes to enable strategic continuous improvement initiatives with key internal stakeholders and systems specialists.
About you To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
Analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with sound judgment and capacity to make decisions and recommendations where diverse interests need to be considered.Strong communication skills and can express opinions, information and key points clearly and concisely via effective verbal and written communication.Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities with the ability to meet deadlines while working in pressured situations.Identifies and manages a range of complex and often competing needs; identifies issues in common for one or more stakeholders and uses them to build mutually beneficial partnerships.Demonstrates high level of awareness of the role of parliament and ministers, and the structure of the public sector.Mandatory requirements Detailed knowledge of Cabinet and Parliament legislative processes.Key Accountabilities Draft Cabinet briefing notes and Coordination Comments that succinctly and accurately summarise complex Cabinet and Committee submissions.Evaluate, and review complex, sensitive or emerging issues; and undertake the integration and synthesis of information from a range of internal and external sources.Present complex, confidential and sensitive information in an accurate and concise way, advocate, negotiate and prepare written reports, coordination comments and portfolio briefs.Provide strategic advice and guidance to executive directors, directors, managers and staff across all divisions on Parliamentary, Cabinet and Ministerial matters.Establish and maintain professional working relationships with and provide advice on protocols, procedures, processes and document control.This position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia.
