Senior Actuarial Analyst Ongoing opportunity at Victorian Management Insurance Authority (VMIA).


We are seeking an experienced Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our dynamic actuarial team at VMIA.
Your insights will directly impact the financial performance and organisational outcomes of Victoria's own State insurer, making your work both challenging and rewarding.

You will join a small team of talented and friendly actuaries and actuarial analysts executing the in-house actuarial work for the Victorian State Government's insurer.
This involves actuarial pricing, portfolio analytics, claims dashboarding, and capital management work for a broad range of insurance classes, from property and professional indemnity to cyber and construction (and more).
The broad range of insurance classes arise from the places which make Victoria great, including the State Library of Victoria, the Metro Tunnel, and the Royal Melbourne Hospital, to name just a few.
You will be working at a Victorian Government agency with over 200 staff, which insures over $200 billion of assets and insurance liabilities of over $3 billion.
Through a broad role in a medium-sized general insurer, you will work with stakeholders throughout the organisation on a wide range of actuarial work.
Due to the diversity and complexity of risks covered by VMIA, you will be using your actuarial skills to help the organisation to solve complex and contemporary insurance matters.
This exciting role reports directly to the Head of Actuarial Services.
Key responsibilities
Support the delivery of the regular annual work undertaken by the Actuaries Services team, spanning the areas of premium pool pricing, premium allocation, portfolio analytics, claims dashboarding, financial reporting and capital management.Provide support and subject matter knowledge and advice to key stakeholders of the Actuarial Services team as required, including the finance, underwriting, claims and product development teams.Provide support to vendors working with the Actuarial Services team as required, particularly relating to data and other requests from our external actuarial services provider and reinsurance broker.Assist the delivery of ad hoc requests and projects supported by the Actuarial Services team, including pricing new business, changes to existing policies and the design of new insurance solutions.Continuously improve the way the Actuarial Services team delivers its work, including maintenance of actuarial models, analyses and data processes with support from the team.About you
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to positively engage with stakeholders, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.At least 3 years' experience in an actuarial role and proven experience relevant to the general insurance and/or reinsurance industry.Knowledge of statistical data analysis techniques and the ability to draw insights and recommendations from data.Strong attention to detail and the ability and willingness to learn about new technologies and methods.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and solid programming experience (R and SQL experience is preferred, but any experience with SAS, Python or other programming languages would also be acceptable assuming the desire to learn R and SQL).Qualifications
You are an Associate or Fellow of the Actuaries Institute or have made considerable progress in your exams with the Actuaries Institute or equivalent overseas actuarial qualification.You hold tertiary qualifications in a quantitative discipline, such as actuarial studies, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.Benefits
