About the role The Youth Justice Services Division is responsible for the safety, security and rehabilitation of young people both in the community and custody. Its core objective is to reduce reoffending among young people through:
Programs and services for young people on orders in the community and programs and services in custody;Services to divert young people away from the criminal justice system.The Senior Aboriginal Practice Officer is responsible for working collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to implement and manage intervention programs that ensure the most effective outcomes for young Aboriginal people. In addition, the position supports the assessment and identification of, and access to people and resources, to enhance the effective case management of young Aboriginal people involved in the justice system.
The Senior Aboriginal Practice Officer is responsible for providing services for young people that are in alignment with those mandated under the Young Offenders Act 1994.
To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.The Department recognizes Aboriginality as a genuine qualification for this position under 50D of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
