The Opportunity: Port of Newcastle is seeking to employ 2x SecOps Engineers on 2-year fixed term, full time contracts.
The role of SecOps Engineer at Port of Newcastle (PON) is a crucial role within the IT team, dedicated to ensuring the operational security and efficiency of PON's diverse IT infrastructure.
This hands-on position involves active management and monitoring of a range of digital platforms, including cloud services, SaaS, and on-premises systems.
The role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity and security of PON's IT environment, with a strong emphasis on proactive threat detection, regular system updates, and the implementation of robust security measures.
The role holds accountabilities across a broad range of areas including Security Operations, Infrastructure Operations, IT Support and Relationship management.
Some of these accountabilities include: Contribute to PON's modern IT infrastructure, focusing on security monitoring and rapid threat response within a range of digital platforms, ensuring operational efficiency and resource optimisation.
Regularly update and maintain diverse digital infrastructure elements, applying the latest security measures.
Conduct comprehensive audits to ensure adherence to performance and security standards.
Manage and enhance security tools pertinent to the digital infrastructure, concentrating on identity management and data encryption, and ensuring smooth integration and scalability.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory Cyber Security obligations (e.g.
Security of Critical Infrastructure Act, Privacy Act, etc).
Provide operational support for the on-premises server infrastructure.
Responsible for data backup routines, ensuring they are functioning correctly.
Actively collaborate with the wider Technology Team to assist with the development and regular testing of Disaster Recovery plans and procedures.
Assist in gathering and providing input on operational needs and requirements for budget planning, focusing on the maintenance and update of PON's infrastructure with the latest technologies.
Assist other IT team members with the day-to-day support of PON staff, via the IT ticketing system and reactive work, to ensure Business as Usual (BAU).
Support internal and external stakeholders with IT infrastructure information and updates.
Provide training and education to internal stakeholders on IT infrastructure best practices.
What you will bring: Experience and Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or a minimum of three to five years' experience in a SecOps or related cybersecurity role.
In-depth knowledge of medium-sized business IT environments with a focus on security aspects, including familiarity with ITIL framework (certification highly regarded).
Extensive experience in configuring and maintaining network and server infrastructure, with specialist skills in securing various technologies and platforms, including cloud and SaaS environments.
Strong understanding of emerging technologies in cybersecurity and their potential applications in enhancing organisational security posture.
Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a team, with a proactive approach to security and operational challenges.
Analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to research, troubleshoot, and resolve complex security-related technical problems.
A high degree of initiative and proactive problem-solving skills, with a focus on anticipating and mitigating security risks.
Organised, methodical, and thorough in approach, with attention to detail in all aspects of security operations.
Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with all levels of staff and external parties, with a strong emphasis on maintaining customer satisfaction and confidentiality.
Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information, with an understanding of the importance of data integrity and privacy in a cybersecurity context.
IT security/network industry-recognized certifications such as OSCP, OSCE, CEH, Microsoft certifications, Cisco, or Palo Alto Networks certifications.
Experience or familiarity with a variety of security and operations management tools, including SIEM systems, cloud security platforms, and other relevant cybersecurity technologies.
