UGL is currently looking for an experienced Secondary Design Engineer to become a key member of the Power Utilities teams based in Sydney. You will be responsible for providing detailed designs, developing specifications and interface with other disciplines, construction, commissioning, management and clients on design issues.
The Secondary Design Engineer will build and maintain strong relationships with the in-house construction teams and our client to effectively deliver to client expectations. This opportunity will see you join our multi-disciplined in-house engineering team working to solve complex problems throughout the project lifecycle across all known aspects of secondary system design involvement. You will:
Plan and conduct professional engineering work on relevant aspects of EHV/HV Secondary Systems Strategic Planning and Conceptual Design (Protection, SCADA, Comms, Data Networks etc.) Provide detail design services on specialist engineering areas that include but not limited to: Protection Detailed Design (Protection Logic/Setting files, etc.), Primary Plant and Secondary Systems Equipment Specification and Procurement (CT, VT, CB, TFMR, etc.), Protection & Control Detail Schematics and Integration, Grid Metering, Power Quality and High Speed Monitoring Installations, Load flow, Fault level and dynamic studies and analysis, Engineering Network/Data Network Architecture and Configuration, Control System Detailed Design and Configuration (EMS and Substation Automation), Communication Systems (including Data Network and Bearer Network systems design), General AC & DC System Specification and Distribution Design, Power Generation (including large scale Solar, Wind and Battery Energy Storage systems) detailed design and system integration, etc. Check design work for technical accuracy and adequacy. Provide technical support to the Business Development, Tendering and Operations as required. Assist with site commissioning. About you Electrical Engineering Degree. At least 3 years' experience in Design, integration & coordination, installation & commissioning of electrical systems and services for high voltage power systems. Understanding and knowledge of secondary system design from basic concept development through to detailed design preferably Design-for-Construction environment, utility-based or engineering consultancy design experience. Strong computer skills and industry experience in a diverse range of relevant Power System Protection and Automation software packages / equipment suppliers and products. Proactively seek to continuously improve performance, deliverables and work efficiencies. Positive approach to safety. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
