Seeking the best suited applicant to join our hard-working team in Cairns. This is an exciting Permanent full-time opportunity. The position contributes to the provision of high-quality, cost-effective pathology services to clients of Pathology Queensland Cairns. The position will apply scientific skills and knowledge to assist in the delivery of pathology services relating to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Microbiology and ensure that all relevant laboratory practices comply with Pathology Queensland, NATA and ISO requirements.
Assist the laboratory services team to meet or exceed service delivery KPIs for the unit.Ensure personal development of scientific knowledge and expertise by participating in Performance Appraisal and Development reviews, active learning and professional development.Through routine duties contribute to scientific research activities within the laboratory.Contribute to and participate in business initiatives and service improvement activities at a local level.Contribute to the Cairns Pathology Queensland laboratory team by working co-operatively and communicating effectively with the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.Work collaboratively with laboratory staff and the laboratory manager to minimise costs through strict inventory control, rostering and workflow design.Perform all quality duties relating to the role including document control, analyser and calibration record keeping, external quality programme participation and appropriate use of internal quality control systems.Demonstrated ability to apply multi-specialty scientific judgement in Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Microbiology.Demonstrated ability to provide scientific advice and provision of results to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients pertaining to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology and Microbiology.Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services in accordance with professional clinical standards, established principles / procedures and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment.Demonstrated ability to work within a team to contribute to the objectives of the laboratory.Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation / certification.Qualifications, registrations and other requirements Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent qualification.Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.Queensland Health staff are required to participate in 24-hour shift, on-call or weekend roster arrangements.Further informationWe are committed to building inclusive cultures in the Queensland public sector that respect and promote human rights and diversity .
