Join our hard-working team based in Herston. This is an exciting permanent full-time position. You will apply a specialist level of knowledge, skills, experience, and clinical leadership within the Molecular Diagnostic Unit, complying with Pathology Queensland requirements.
Key Responsibilities include: Regularly provide independent expert technical judgement on matters within the area of expertise to fellow staff members and clients both internal and external.Demonstrate a professional attitude by working cooperatively and communicating effectively within the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.Be involved and maintain competencies in routine MDU testing benches.Have a thorough understanding of the functions of a PCR suite to prevent and minimise amplicon contamination.Provide direction, assistance, education, and supervision to new and existing HP3 and CA3 members of the team.Assist clients with phone enquiries.Assist with timely reporting and transcription checking of MDU results.You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
Demonstrated specialised technical knowledge, skill, and expertise in performing contemporary infectious diseases molecular diagnostic assays and managing the day-to-day technical operations and resource allocation.Demonstrated high-level knowledge, expertise, and skill in applying the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, and a high-level understanding of laboratory quality control and quality assurance programs.Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as a leader and a team member under the direction of more senior practitioners, producing an effective work output and quality.Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to comply with organisational policies and procedures, and assist the laboratory to comply with all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards including meeting NATA / NPAAC/ ISO / TGA accreditation / certification requirements.Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements: The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree qualification (or equivalent degree) in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.Appointment to this position requires proof of qualifications.
