ChemCentre provides a comprehensive range of scientific services, working with a wide range of clients including Government Agencies, universities, environmental consultants, primary producers, exporters, retailers, and the general public.
Through the provision of chemical information, advice, and analytical services, ChemCentre also mitigates risks to Government, protects the community and environment, and supports sustainable development.
The Scientific Services Division provides services including complex chemical analyses, problem-solving, and investigative and collaborative research projects.
These activities are involved with agriculture, the environment, public and occupational health, and State development.
This position will contribute to a range of activities within the Emergency Response Section and will have a strong focus on 24/7 crisis response services in support of the State's emergency response plan and State Hazard Plan (HAZMAT).
Research and Development and Training activities in support of hazardous materials/chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (HAZMAT/CBRN) will be strongly encouraged.
About the roleWe are seeking a highly motivated Chemist, who can contribute to developing analytical methods and procedures to solve complex chemistry issues in HAZMAT/CBRN or Dangerous Goods contexts.
In this role, you will participate in HAZMAT/CBRN incident response activities including mandatory participation on a 24/7 on-call roster which can include intrastate deployment at short notice.
To be successful, you will have the ability to deliver training programs and work effectively within a high-functioning team.
A degree or higher qualification in Chemistry, or a relevant science with substantial chemistry components, is an essential requirement of this role.
This is a full-time position offered on a Fixed Term Contract for One (1) year, with the possibility for extension or permanency, subject to funding. Suitable applicants may be considered for like positions within 12 months from the date of finalization of the selection process.
The position is located in Building 500, Resources and Chemistry Precinct, Manning Road, Bentley.
EligibilityTo be eligible for a fixed-term appointment, it is essential to have documentary evidence of your entitlements to live and work in Australia for the period of the contract.
To be eligible for a permanent position, Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency is essential.
Upon appointment, applicants will require National Police Clearance, WA Police Integrity Check, and pass a Fit for Work test (completed prior to commencement).
