The Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRMDW) drives growth for Queensland by managing sustainable water resources, leading innovation in manufacturing, and developing our regions. From our offices in Brisbane and a network of regional offices and manufacturing hubs, more than 700 DRDMW staff work to create a Queensland where communities, businesses and water resources are sustainable and resilient.

The Role
In this exciting role, you will undertake a range of science projects focused on freshwater aquatic ecosystems across the Murray Darling Basin. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide results and data to support future water management decisions to sustainably manage water resources across the State. Projects will involve field-based activities, desktop assessment, laboratory work and report writing. These activities will ultimately inform water management decisions and water planning to sustainably manage water resources across the state.

Assist in the design and delivery of projects aimed at filling knowledge gaps and data requirements to support water planning and management decisions.
Provide advice and input to water planning and work with other staff and groups involved in the implementation of the Water Planning Science Plan as required, including advice on knowledge gaps and science needs.
Undertake data analysis and provide targeted reporting on project results to water managers and other stakeholders.
Communicate outcomes of projects and findings effectively to water managers and other stakeholders.
Maintain data in corporate databases to ensure data integrity.

About You
The applicant will require a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural or Environmental Science, Biology, Applied Science or Natural Resource Management.
Demonstrated previous experience in monitoring freshwater ecosystems is highly desirable.
Knowledge of freshwater fish ecology, turtle ecology, groundwater dependent ecosystems or another freshwater ecology specialisation is highly desirable.
Applicants must hold a current 'C' class manual driver's licence or equivalent.
Boat handling skills are highly desirable.
Out-of-hours and weekend work may be required.
Fitness for fieldwork - this is both a field and office-based position.
This position will require remote area fieldwork and overnight travel as part of the fulfilment of the role.
