About the Role   The Science Laboratory Assistant plays a key role in supporting Science staff to ensure all equipment and chemicals are stored safely and in accordance with regulations.
While also supporting students with diverse learning needs can safely participate in the Science curriculum in order to achieve the academic goals and social skills required for independent learning and confident participation.

Advises staff on the hazardous nature of chemicals by preparing labels for all chemicals used in science laboratories.
The labels should include information about risks and hazards associated with exposure and spillage of the chemicals.
Maintains the chemical register and the database of stock records on the computer.
Ensures that all chemicals and equipment are stored safely, in accordance with regulations and to avoid contamination, theft and misuse.
Assisting students with day-to-day activities, travelling and other duties that may arise.
Carrying out individual programs of a self-help nature that develop independent living skills in students Receiving, issuing, distributing, stock-taking and safeguarding of teaching resources, goods, supplies, stores, materials and equipment Qualifications   Must hold an ACT Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration.
A Certificate IV or Diploma in Education Support is desirable.
Selection Criteria  Applies knowledge in areas and a range of skills in a variety of roles and tasks Uses discretion and judgement in organising and achieving outcomes under time constraints Effective communication and interpersonal skills, in particular, the ability to relate to students and to work collaboratively with staff members Initiative and the ability to handle several tasks concurrently, working independently and flexibly to adjust to changing situations Please refer to the position description for in-depth details regarding the position duties, criteria, and skill set required.
