The Wellbeing Team plays a crucial role in helping to ensure that our school community is a supportive one where students have the capacity to develop their individual interests and strengths.
In order for our students to maximise their learning they need to be happy, relaxed and safe, and experience a positive school culture that engages and supports them in their learning.
They are unable to reach their potential if they are feeling anxious or unsafe.
The Wellbeing Team at Balwyn High School acknowledges that student wellbeing and student learning outcomes are intrinsically linked and aim to promote a culture where all members of the school community recognise the significant role they have in contributing to an individual's wellbeing.
The many dimensions of wellbeing highlight the need for integrating and delivering a whole school approach as well as ensuring a wide range of competencies and skills are exhibited in those who assist young people to improve their wellbeing.
The Wellbeing Team also aims to encourage young people in the development of skills which build their resilience enabling them to deal with any challenges they may face and ultimately become more capable adults.
Wellbeing at Balwyn High School includes a collaborative team of wellbeing professionals offering one on one and small group support through to whole school programs.
Where relevant, external wellbeing support services will be utilised to further enhance the wellbeing of students and the work of the Wellbeing Team.
The following aims guide the direction and daily practices of The Wellbeing Team in support of community members:

The Wellbeing Team supports the school's aim to develop healthy and positive relationships where individual differences are respected.
To work alongside the Directors of Wellbeing (Middle and Senior School) and all members of the Wellbeing Team to achieve positive outcomes for community members.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities Provide a psychology service that includes short-term counselling and the delivery of evidence-based interventions (i.e, CBT, ACT) to students; conducting individual assessments, including the scoring and write-up of assessment reports; advice about relevant teaching and learning strategies; individual, group and family work; and support in managing critical incidents in the school.Provide professional advice, consultancy and support to Principals and school communities through the development and implementation of programs and services with a focus on the learning, development and wellbeing of students, particularly those that are most vulnerable.Contribute to strengthening the links and referral pathways between relevant departments, services, community organisations and schools to optimise support for vulnerable children, young people and their families.Participate in the identification and delivery of programs to address state-wide, regional and network student engagement and wellbeing priorities in collaboration with the student support services team.Contribute professionally to the collaborative work of the multi-disciplinary team and participate in service improvement activities.
As a member of the school, the School Psychologist is responsible for ensuring that all information relevant to the ability of the School to provide the optimal learning environment for the student is conveyed to the Principal/s, Directors of Wellbeing (Middle and Senior school), Directors of Sub School and/or Student Learning Wellbeing Managers (SLWMs), as appropriate.
Relevant information includes information pertaining to the student's safety (risk to self or others), bullying, major social conflict, defined psychological conditions, factors that may significantly impact on the ability to learn, and major family disruption.The School Psychologist will perform their duties in a confidential manner consistent with the Australian Psychological Society's Code of Ethics, including maintaining professional competence and continued professional learning, and maintain a comprehensive and professional record keeping system consistent with the Australian Psychological Society's Code of Ethics.Undertake other duties as determined by the School Principal.Who May ApplyApplicants need to meet the following criteria:
