About the RoleThe successful candidate will initially undertake a 12-month School Officer role within the Science Department. Following the completion of the 12 month contract, the candidate may be deployed to Learning Support to meet the operational requirements of the college.
Candidates with a Certificate IV in Education Support and experience working in a Science Laboratory are highly desirable.
In these roles, the chosen candidate will be required to:
School Officer – Science Department Provide practical assistance and guidance to students during practical lessons including students with diverse special needs under the direction of a teacher.Assist with evaluating and assessing the learning needs of students under the direction of a teacher.Under guidance, assist in science program activities, including experiment design and demonstration.Prepare, set up, and dismantle equipment for experiments, ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.Handle stock solutions, chemicals, and hazardous materials following established procedures.Contribute to stock take, ordering of science resources, and maintenance of equipment database.Collaborate with teachers to manage equipment return and storage.Enforce safety protocols and participate in housekeeping for efficient laboratory operations.School Officer – Learning Support Provide one–to-one or small group student support.Provide student support in the transition to high school.Provide emotional care and support.Prepare curriculum resources/aides/materials as directed.Facilitate social skills and therapy-based programs.Under the direction of a teacher or the Diverse Learning Leader, support the implementation of learning goals as identified in Personal Learning Plans.Assist students to stay on task in class and assist with modified work.Assist with communication, particularly the interpretation of instructions.Communicate with teachers about student progress and areas of need as they arise.Attend school excursions, activities and camps as required.Attend to student personal care needs (eg assist with toileting) as required.Assist with the college's annual processes to support the NCCD data collection.Encourage students to develop a sense of responsibility towards their own education.Facilitate social interaction, promote independence and assist with personal organisation when required.Attend team meetings as required and support collegial learning by sharing learnings with colleagues.Undertake ongoing professional development to learn and apply new knowledge and skills that improve the educational outcomes of students.In addition to:
