School Learning Support Officer - Multiple positions - Full time - Ongoing - Gralee SchoolThe NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.About the RoleSchool Learning Support Officers provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition, School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings: pre-school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual. Student Learning Support Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties required to be performed.Essential RequirementsWorking with Children Check ClearanceCompletion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).Selection CriteriaDemonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.Ability to work with students with emotional, physical, or intellectual disabilities.Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical, or intellectual disabilities.Effective communication skills.Special NotesThe Department of Education is the largest provider of public education in Australia with responsibility for delivering high-quality public education to two-thirds of the NSW student population. Our school has an enrolment of 29 students from K-12 with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities and autism. Twelve students identify as Aboriginal and an increasing number require support in the form of English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D).Gralee School supports the development of students with a focus on academic growth, wellbeing, and social success. We maintain high expectations of students using the Positive Behaviour for Learning framework of 'Safe, Friend, Learner' and a positive environment where every student is known, valued, and cared for. To ensure students succeed and thrive in school; all students have a Personalised Learning and Support Plan (PLSPs), which focuses on the whole child including their social and emotional wellbeing, communication, academic goals, and post-school transition strategies.A key aspect of the school is working effectively with the community. We have fostered strong partnerships with our local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), local businesses and community groups, and disability centres and have established a work experience/transition program for all students from Year 9 to 12.
