Part-time (school term-time position, plus some school holiday requirements)Commencement: January 2025The Laboratory Technician will support our Science faculty by providing technical services, preparing equipment for experiments, and ensuring the safe use and maintenance of laboratory chemicals, materials, and equipment. This role collaborates closely with science teachers, students, and relevant school departments, reporting directly to the Head of Science.
What you'll be doing Prepare and manage laboratory equipment and materials for science classes.Maintain safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals in compliance with WH&S regulations.Support teachers with the setup of experiments and provide guidance on technical procedures.Conduct risk assessments and manage a register for hazardous materials.Liaise with suppliers and assist in budgeting for laboratory resources.Maintain and update inventories, ensuring laboratory and storage areas meet safety standards.What we're looking for Diploma (minimum) in Laboratory Technology (analytical or scientific), or equivalent post-secondary qualification appropriate to the nature of the work.Minimum 2 years of experience as a laboratory technician.Experience in an educational setting (desirable).Proficiency in handling chemicals and laboratory apparatus.Strong organisational and time management skills with proficiency in Word and Excel.Effective communication skills for engaging with students, staff, and other stakeholders.Current first aid certification.Working with Vulnerable Persons check and a satisfactory National Police clearance.What we offer A welcoming and inclusive work environment.Opportunities for professional development.The chance to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of students and the school community.About us St Michael's Collegiate School is a leading Anglican girls' school in Hobart, Tasmania, established in 1892.
