Casino Christian School (CCS) is an exciting, growing K-12 school of 360 students. Located in the peaceful, semi-rural setting of North Casino we provide families from Casino, the regional centre, Lismore, and the town of Kyogle, with an opportunity for high quality, Christian education. The school is governed by the Presbyterian Church of NSW and affiliated with both Christian Schools Australia and the Association of Independent Schools NSW.

Reporting: Directly to the Principal
Core Responsibilities Provide assessment, counselling and consultancy to individual students and/or their parents. Provide appropriate feedback and follow-up to student's parents, teachers, pastoral and support staff.Assist school staff to identify and address student's specific needs; social, emotional, learning and/or behavioural.Facilitate group seminars and programs for students and parents on issues concerned with emotional and social health.Facilitate special interest evening for parents and students addressing identified issues affecting students learning, behaviour and emotional health each school term.Conduct or facilitate educational psychological assessment programs for individuals or groups as required.Guide families in referrals to external professionals when required. Follow up such referrals to assist parents and students and to provide feedback to relevant staff.Maintain confidential case files for all students obtaining counselling.Provide advice on child protection issues.Assist with applications for integration, literacy and other relevant grants from Government sources.Assist students and staff, through assessment and reports, with students' applications for special provisions, misadventure appeals and educational access schemes.Communication Process
Students are referred to the School Counsellor through the Principal or Coordinator. Any concerns about the wellbeing of a student will be referred by whoever notes that concern to the nominated staff member in the relevant school who will determine whether or not to refer to the School Counsellor, and what communication is required to other staff members to ensure a comprehensive pastoral care / student support and well-being approach. Requests by parents for the intervention of the School Counsellor should be made through the Principal or Coordinator. The School Counsellor should direct the parent to the Principal or Coordinator if a parent approaches them directly to request counselling for their child.
Students who refer themselves, or are referred by peers to the School Counsellor will be evaluated as soon as possible and the Principal or Coordinator notified, unless there are exceptional circumstances. If the student is deemed by the School Counsellor to be at risk (issues such as friendship issues or minor disagreements with friends should be referred to the Coordinator) the School Counsellor will spend an appropriate time with the student and then confer with the nominated staff member.
Staff may consult with the School Counsellor for advice on student issues or student management from time to time, however the School Counsellor should only undertake intervention with a student through the appropriate referral protocol.
Regular and open communication must be balanced with privacy and confidentiality requirements for the effective management of students in the school's care.
The School Counsellor may be required to attend regular scheduled meetings about the pastoral care of students. These may include, but are not limited to:
A weekly briefing with Principal and/or his/her delegateFortnightly meetings with the Coordinators highlighting students at risk or worthy of particular mention.They should also attend: Any meetings between the school and parents about students on their caseload, as requested.Case meetings, planning meetings and other school-based meetings where interventions and student management are discussed.Case meetings and meetings with external service providers as needed.Meetings regarding individual student behaviour, including re-entry meetings for students on suspension, or other behavioural issues, including bullying.The School Counsellor may be required to attend pre and post enrolment interviews with students who have a history of serious mental health or behavioural issues. In such cases the School Counsellor may facilitate the provision of medical and health information from previous health and welfare providers such as the previous school's School Counsellor or Psychologist.
