The position of school counsellor is part of the Care Team at Prescott College Southern and is integral to the support we provide to our students.
About the Role We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced person to join our pastoral care team.
In this role, you will work closely with students to ensure their emotional, social and wellbeing needs are being met while providing support to teaching staff as well as families on how to best care for these students.
The school counsellor:
Provides support and professional advice to students in the areas of wellbeing and mental health. Supports teachers and families in understanding student mental health concerns and provides strategies to support their learning and wellbeing. Maintains confidentiality, along with accurate and up to date client notes and written communications. This role is offered as a fixed-term contract position from 13/01/2025 to 12/12/2025.
An extension of the initial contract or permanency may be offered to the right candidate at the conclusion of the contract.
Hours of Work To be negotiated but preferably Monday to Wednesday 8:00am – 4:00pm.
There is no requirement to work pupil free days, public holidays or in the school holidays.
About Us Prescott College Southern is located 24km south of the Adelaide CBD, in Morphett Vale, on the outskirts of the beautiful Southern Vales region.
The school has an enrolment of approximately 730 students from Foundation to Year 12.
We provide a family atmosphere where students have close and supportive contact with their teachers and peers.
They are provided with an education that is personal, nurturing, and targeted toward developing their individual abilities.
About the Person The successful candidate for this position will:
Have recognised qualifications in counselling or a degree in an allied field. Have demonstrated experience working with children, adolescents and their families to address various mental health, developmental and learning concerns. Be able to implement evidence-based therapeutic techniques and develop intervention plans including safety plans, attendance plans and student support plans. Possess a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and be able to liaise with a range of stakeholders on many levels to ensure holistic support for students. Demonstrate excellent organisation and time management skills. Have an understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice. Support the Christian ethos of the School.

This role is classified as Level 7; the school currently pays 17% above the Award rates.
This rate commences at $43.43/hour.
