Scholarship - Movement Science - School of Health Sciences Scholarship opportunity in the discipline of Movement Science, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Amount: $40,109 p.a. for 3 years.

About the opportunity Measurement of blood pressure to guide hypertension management is increasingly performed outside of health care settings. Current methods include home blood pressure and ambulatory monitoring, but there is an array of next generation wearable cuffless monitoring devices entering the market that will disrupt the way blood pressure is conventionally measured and have major implications for hypertension management. Our team has multiple PhD opportunities available that aim to address the accuracy, quality and acceptability of blood pressure measurement methods used outside health care settings.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

We offer multiple PhD opportunities and seek exceptional candidates to become future leaders in cardiovascular health and disease research. These projects are offered by a close-knit, ambitious group with extensive national and international academic collaborations.

The successful candidates will join a vibrant cohort of fellow researchers and students and will benefit from access to additional training activities through the University of Sydney and collaborative research. The candidate will be embedded in inter-disciplinary networks designed to foster future opportunities for collaboration and career development.

These PhDs present opportunities for motivated candidates from diverse backgrounds including medicine, science, health sciences, public health and biotechnology. PhD candidates will contribute to clinical research activities to record extensive BP monitoring data. The central research themes focus upon testing and validating the latest cutting-edge BP measurement technologies. The flourish of fast-paced advances in personalised health tracking hold enticing promise yet require the underpinnings of rigorous evaluation.

Candidates will develop skills that include but are not limited to:

scoping, systematic reviews and meta-analysis designing rigorous clinical research studies clinical research data collection – various methods of blood pressure measurement, anthropometry, questionnaires quantitative statistical analysis utilising statistical programming packages (including R, SPSS) scientific writing and writing for publication developing health policy guidelines. This work would be undertaken in collaboration with leading centres in hypertension research within the University of Sydney and several other collaborating institutions.

About you One scholarship is available from the research team. However, applicants are encouraged to apply for various scholarships from the University of Sydney.

These PhD opportunities require in-person study. The projects are based at the Camperdown Campus of the University of Sydney.
