About the role The Safety, Health and Environment Manager manages and coordinates all safety, health and environment programs, processes and activities to build and maintain a compliant and safe work environment. This role drives excellence in safety, health and environment across the site to achieve best-in-class safety and sustainability results.The SHE Manager will develop the local strategy to deliver legal compliance and ensure the consistent execution of BC Standards. This role will ensure the implementation of programs to drive the reduction of safety incidents and environmental harmful impacts.The SHE Manager leads and manages SHE-related incidents on-site. This role provides guidance and support on relevant SHE matters. The SHE Manager is a member of the Plant Management Team. Key responsibilities include Designs, maintains and leads the implementation of local health, safety, security and environmental management systems.Leads SHE incident management and drives management of relevant programs and actions relating to documented risks and or incident follow-up.Conducts SHE meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow-up assessments.Provides site employees, contractors and visitors with guidance on health, safety and security matters and ensures the site is compliant with Barry Callebaut, industry, local and state, and national guidelines and regulations.Collaborates with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan and serve as primary contact for site SHE incident notification, investigation and case management.Integrates occupational health and safety imperatives with business decision-making and risk management.Advises on engineering and maintenance practices to drive improvement of safe systems of working.Drives positive SHE culture through but not limited to: embedding the 10 BC Life Saving Principles, Gemba safety talks and training, and putting Safety first demonstrated by consistent management behaviors.Ensures SHE compliance is regularly audited, performance and risks are assessed and uses the results to drive further improvement.Ensures local SHE and facilities (eg Petroleum and Flammable Material Storage License etc) licenses as well as certifications remain valid with local authorities.Responsible for monitoring and measurement of SHE variables - SHE Scorecard.About you Degree in Workplace Safety, Science or Engineering or equivalent academic level essential.Good knowledge of Australian (Commonwealth) and State (especially Victoria and New South Wales) occupational safety, environment and sustainability laws, regulations and codes of practice.Internal auditor or ISO auditor qualification is a plus.Experience of Lean/TPM tools and ways of working is a plus.Demonstrated understanding of the requirements of relevant standards such as ISO 14001; ISO 45001 or OSHSAS 18001.Strong experience in managing Safety, Health and Environment practices in a factory-based role.Safety, Health or Environment role, Operations, Continuous Improvement, Process Improvement or Quality experience.Experience with SHE management systems and risk management.Experience with influencing behavioral change in a team/department.A change champion.Excels in coaching, training and influencing skills.Resilient and capable of making difficult decisions.Transversal leader and excellent stakeholder manager.Strong analytical skills, ability to translate data into action and follow through.Ability to develop actionable strategies and programs, ensure resources are available and follow up on deliverables.At Barry Callebaut, we are committed to Diversity & Inclusion.
