Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling including CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction delivering the Tunnels South package on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, on behalf of Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA).
We have a broad range of roles available to build our diverse and inclusive workforce, including construction and engineering, planning and environmental management, corporate support, administration, communications and many others.
SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is now under construction, with tunnelling to start in 2026 and trains to be running by 2035.
Suburban Connect is constructing the 16kms of tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley using 4 tunnel boring machines and a range of excavation methods. The works also include 55 cross passages, 2 tunnel portal structures, 2 station box excavations and associated supports.
About the opportunity: To contribute to the achievement of the Safety and Health Objectives by ensuring that all staff and contractors comply with Statutory, Contractual and Safety Management System obligations.
The Health & Safety Advisor will play a key role in supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of robust health and safety systems with a strong emphasis on governance and assurance. This role will focus on ensuring that health and safety processes align with regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and industry best practices. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, the advisor will guide initiatives to enhance safety culture, improve system safety, and achieve high standards of health and safety performance.
Key responsibilities of the role include: Safety Systems: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety systems through regular audits, reviews, and assessments.Business Performance: Assist in the development and enforcement of standards to ensure the Project complies with S&H regulatory and governance requirements.Health and Safety Improvement Initiatives: Contribute to the development and delivery of Project goals and objectives.Stakeholder Engagement and Culture Development: Foster a proactive and positive safety culture by engaging with employees and stakeholders at all levels.Governance and Compliance: Support the implementation and maintenance of Suburban Connect's Health and Safety Governance framework to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with internal policies.Assurance and Audit Management: Contribute to internal and external health and safety audits, ensuring thorough preparation, execution, and follow-up on audit findings.Experience, Skills and Behavioural Competencies: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a health and safety advisory role, preferably with a focus on system safety, governance, and assurance.Robust understanding of State and Federal Construction Safety legislation.Demonstrable experience of Safety Management System implementation.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.Proven experience in conducting audits, managing non-conformances, and implementing corrective actions.Bachelor's degree or Post Graduate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.ICAM Lead investigator (Desirable) / ICAM Basic Investigator (Desirable).Return to Work Coordinator (Desirable).Lead Auditor Safety (Desirable).Cert IV in Training and Assessment (Desirable).What we offer: Shape Melbourne's Future: Be part of building a landmark infrastructure project that will leave a lasting mark on the city's public transport network.Invest in Your Career: Long-term stability with a clear growth trajectory, fuelled by our pipeline of future projects.Thrive in Collaboration: Immerse yourself in a diverse, inclusive culture that values innovative problem-solving and teamwork.Continuously Learn & Grow: Access professional development opportunities and share your unique expertise within a supportive environment.To submit your application, please click on the link below.
