Responsible to the Minister for Emergency Services, the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM) was established by the Fire and Emergency Services Act of 2005. SAFECOM provides a unified strategic direction to the Emergency Services Sector for service delivery, governance and accountability, working with the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS), the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and the South Australian State Emergency Service (SES) to serve all South Australians. The Commission plays a vital role in collaborating with local communities and other government agencies/non-government entities to prevent, prepare for, and respond to natural disasters, supported by over 14,000 emergency service workers and volunteers.
SAFECOM provides corporate and business services in the areas of financial services, work health and safety, mental health and wellbeing, procurement and assets management, volunteer services, injury management, records management and ICT support to the sector. The Chief Officers of the CFS, MFS and SES and the Chief Executive of SAFECOM, as well as the Independent Presiding Member, form the SAFECOM Board. Two Independent Members are now sought to bring impactful external perspective and complementary core skills to the Board.
As an Independent Board Member, you will join the experienced Board to contribute to the Commission pursuing strategic objectives, whilst strengthening its future with a focus on best practice modern risk management, ongoing innovation and service excellence in meeting the State's evolving emergency management needs. You will share responsibility for the governance, policy formulation, strategic direction and vital oversight of the affairs of the Commission, monitoring management performance and also join the Risk and Performance Committee.
You will be a seasoned senior executive and independent thinker who offers constructive contributions to Board deliberations and decision making. Whilst experience of working with Government is beneficial, core to the impact of Board Members will be a proven understanding of risk and finance gained in a large corporate environment. GAICD qualified, expertise in procurement and assets management, volunteer-driven workforces and/or ICT will be highly regarded.
