The RTBU represents the industrial interests of workers across the transport sector of rail, tram and bus operations. We have a proud history dating back to 1861 of defending workers' rights and conditions. The union is actively growing our membership and routinely appears before courts and tribunals.
Role Description
This full-time position is for a Legal Officer to join our Industrial Team, based out of our offices in Pitt Street Sydney. The position reports to the Branch Secretary of the Union.
The Legal Officer will be responsible primarily for employment and industrial law matters including providing advice and representation to RTBU members in state and federal tribunals and courts including taking carriage of disputes and unfair dismissal matters.
Qualifications and Criteria A bachelor's degree in law and a valid practicing certificatePost admission experience of 2+ yearsLegal experience in employment and/or industrial lawExperience in providing legal advice and representation; legal document preparation and concluding legal researchExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently or as part of a teamAttention to detail and strong organisational skillsA commitment to unionismExperience within a union or non-profit organisation is beneficial.The terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the contract offered.
Salary: Dependent on experience, plus government superannuation guarantee of 11.5%
In addition to the salary, the successful candidate will enjoy 5 weeks annual leave, the benefit of an Accrued Day Off (ADO) per month, 15 days sick leave, and the option to utilise our salary sacrifice scheme.
